IMO, ZWave or Zigbee are far superior than Wifi for smart home devices unless you're using just one or two. Better to have a dedicated network that doesn't clog your information traffic.

i dont mind the shipping, they are fair prices. they can increase the prices by $5 each and offer "free" shipping. i'm just glad there is a free shipping option for $100

The bummer is you have to spend $99 to get the free shipping. There's only about $60 worth of stuff I could actually use. The zst39 for only $20 is a really good deal. I'm not sure why someone would go with the 700 series stick to save one extra dollar. I did the painful move from a 500 series Nortek dongle to the zooz 800 series just a month ago. Everything is working great on it and it supports long range. Z-Wave. I wonder if Black Friday would bring a lower threshold for free shipping?

ZWave with home assistant has become a pain in the butt with the integration/implementation. I'm still zwave all the way, but for those getting started, get ready for frustration...
I have had zero issues with z-wave js in home assistant with a zooz 700 stick. It's been far more reliable than zigbee (off a dongle p) or wifi devices for me. I am z-wave first

Note that the Zooz is a bit more convenient than the video indicates for the smart switches he's using as you do not need to install it on the source side. The Zooz can be installed on either side of the 3-way circuit based on the manual.

edit: I was wrong. The diagram in the manual has two install options but they do not work the way I thought they did at first glance (the light output connection in the photos changes sides between the two examples). Source is required on the ZEN76. See Zooz response to me lower in thread for more details.

Really like their 3/4 way switches, wasn't able to do this with any other decent quality brand. The challenge was just finding the switch that had the line come in. As far as their dimmers go, I really wish I could use them because my LED can lights add up to well above their 100W limit. Stuck with a dimmer from Leviton that is working so-so, but capable of handling the combined load at least...

I have Jasco (GE) and Zooz switches throughout my house. These Zooz switches are great quality.
So I have 3 Jasco/GE Enbrighten line dimmers, but I've been afraid to install them because of so many loud complaints about them going bad quickly. Is it overblown?

I just redid my managed install of HA… it was a pita, mostly due to when I installed it and availability of packages at the time… built-in zwave JS was limited and not great, so I went with external zwave2mqtt, then had Misquitto to broker the MQTT back… all forced install on Ubuntu. It wasn't happy at all with the last few HA updates.
I took a night, backed up the config/devices, and wiped it all away. Setup a virtualBox and installed managed HA OS there, then restored. Worked like a charm and it's been great.
People starting out these days with HA will be fine, it's far easier now.

I've ordered a great deal of my smart home zwave stuff from Smartest House. Their customer service is fantastic. When I shorted out a switch installing it for the first time (and didn't follow all of their directions), they sent me a new one for free. When the cover on one of my open/close sensors disappeared (seriously, no idea where it went), they sent me a new one for free. They'll help you troubleshoot your wiring as well. Buy from these guys with confidence

I'm gonna stock up on some more switches, personally.

If the Zigbee standard was actually followed.
If good Zigbee devices were readily available.

I was a big Zigbee fan, if nothing else the number of hold it can seamlessly handle… zwave is a pitiful 3-4 hops, Zigbee is 20-30. But it just fell off because the ecosystem was such a shitshow of vendors doing their own custom thing that would break your mesh.

Nope, it isn't.
Get Zooz, you'll be far happier.

100w+ of LEDs on a single switch?
How big is this room?

The ZEN76 and ZEN77 models need to be installed in the box with direct access to power - but you don't need to make changes to the switches in the other boxes. With the ZEN71 and ZEN72 models you may have some more flexibility depending on how the current 3-way is wired but you'll need to make some small changes in the box with the regular switch. So it all depends what's more important in the installation for you but you should be able to find the model that best fits your needs Smilie

Can someone explain this magic?
They have wiring diagrams on their website and in the box instructions. Also, their CS is super helpful. If you're stuck, you can email them photos and they'll help you out. What you need to do exactly depends on how the poles are wired, but they have diagrams for a bunch of common (and less common) setups.

Gotcha. My mistake.

In for a zen16 relay, a smoke detector, 2 zen34 remotes, 1 zen 30 switch, 15 zen76 switches, and an 800 stick.... Gonna take a minute to install it all...
The ZEN34 remotes are so useful. I'm bummed they haven't been included in the last few sales but they're worth it even at regular price.
