I think they're referring to price-per-TB, so 18 TB for $200 ($11.11/TB) is fairly close to 14TB for $150 ($10.71/TB).

Excellent price per TB, but for almost the same price you can get the WD 18TB from Best Buy which people say is more reliable (in my experience all the major brands are all the same)

Depends on scale of your setup.

For example I have 20 drives, having them in external housings with 20 power bricks wouldn't ideal.

Instead I have a server running in basement.

Also if you shuck them and put it in proper setup you also have proper cooling.

Drives in these external enclosures often run hot.

I use the external drives for backing up all of my photos, files and etc. After I run the backup, I disconnect the drive. If I get hit with a virus or a power surge and lose everything, the external drive is safe. You can also take it off site for storage.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a 14TB Barracuda, but that's a really good deal if they're dropping an Ironwolf in there

To put in a NAS, usually, and because the externals are cheaper than buying the bare drive.

I got a couple of these back in the summer. They are Exos drives. X18 series, if I recall correctly.

I got a couple of these in the summer. I don't recall having to tape them. Of course it does somewhat depend on your power supply.

I've bought 8 or 9 14tb Seagate externals to shuck over the years. 75% have been Exos drives and the others were Ironwolf drives.

There is no guarantee what's going to be in there, but they will all be CMR drives.

I have Seagate and WD drives, and so far only the WD have failed, but those were the oldest drives.

Drives tend to follow the bathtub curve - fail early or late.
