It sounds like you haven't used this and you're just guessing. This looks unchanged from the one I bought about 10 years ago, I bike twice a week and do all my own wrenching. This thing is in as good shape as it was when I bought it, the jaws have shown ZERO sign of wear and the pipes used are showing ZERO signs of wear.

Why write what you did when you're just completely guessing? I would recommend this stand to anyone who isn't a professional bike shop that would use this literally a hundred times more than a home user would. It's a fantastic stand and I have no complaints about it.

On top of that, this seems to be a pretty good deal, I'm pretty sure I paid about the same price ten years ago, maybe $10 less? That's a very small amount of price inflation for that span of time.

It doesn't work "just as well" as more expensive brands.

1. That clamping mechanism looks like it's pretty much entirely made of plastic, which is probably durable enough if you have your bike in the jaws infrequently, but won't do the trick for frequent use.

2. The steel or aluminum pipes used are not as strong as when you'd get a brand name like park tool or feedback.

3. It's probably not at its lowest price.

These are pretty good if you're not sure if biking is for you, but at this price, I'd be looking to get a used park tool or feedback sports bike repair stand. They will actually last. I'd try to save money by buying used (and better), but this isn't the worst item on Slickdeals.

Yeah this will be totally fine unless you are wrenching your 100 lb+ electric motorcycle

I have the same non-bike hand-branded, i.e. Taiwanese black label stand for the last 3-4 years and is holding up like new.

Servicing 5 bikes and did 3 full rebuilds or frame up builds with it. Not pro use by any form, but probably healthy or at leat above average amateur use.

It's not lowest price ever, but it's pre-pandemic average. Decent stand for the $.

Thanks for the headsup. I've updated the deal to the cheaper price on Woot.

Well, it is rated for 55lbs (25 kilo). They have a 110lb one on Amazon for more money.

I have what looks like an exact version of this stand under another brand name. I bought it from Amazon where it currently sells for $70 so seems like the everyday price. I'm not thrilled but it works. I find the stability lacking, which is probably an issue with all lighter gauge stands. I don't love the plastic clamping mechanism either, it feels cheap. That all said, I do all my own work and have used this stand for a couple of years and it's held up just fine so durability has not been an issue.

I have this and I do use it a lot over the probably 5 years that I've owned it. It has held up pretty well, but is definitely not nearly as good as Park or Feedback. But is a fraction of the price. The clamping mechanism isn't nearly as good and I disassemble occasionally to tighten up. My LBS has Park stands and they are much better. I also just bought a Feedback stand for the MTB team I run and though I haven't used it yet, I swear I thought I heard dramatic music playing in the background when I unboxed it. It just felt so sturdy and will be a pleasure to use.

So yes, this is a good deal for a stand, but doesn't compare to the top name brands.

Is this good enough to assemble a new bike out of the box?

Yes, it will be fine for that. Biggest weaknesses are when you need to angle a bike where the weight might not be distributed somewhat evenly, like maybe bleeding brakes or something, and the clamp is just not as quick and easy to tighten as a high end stand. It really is a decent stand for the money, but as you might expect, one priced 4 times higher will perform better in pretty much all ways.

My stand actually lives outside much of the year in the northeast, and has still held up pretty well.

You don't need it for a 80-90٪ assembled bike, but it helps.

If you are working on a frame-up build or full rebuild, it is more necessary, but you can always do without.

edit: love the petty downvote. 🤣
sure, noone can do anything w/o a bike stand. happy now? ❤️

I've had the SmileMart one off of Walmart $60 (was $45) for 3 years and just do assembly + tune-ups on my kids' bikes and mine. It's similar to this one although it has 4 legs. It's way better than working on the ground and seem durable enough.

This one is solid. Just borrowed this one from a friend this summer.

It's solid. In for one of my own.

Merry Christmas to me!
