Hard pass. 50 more bucks for a 49" Samsung with 120hz would be an excellent alternative if Costco deal is still going.

Otherwise I'd jump on the Monoprice one for $689, especially if they have any coupons out right now.

No comment on the monitor quality, but it's roughly the same width as a 43" 4K monitor and might work as a good tilted top or bottom monitor for those who like that setup. An ultrawide 34" is not wide enough to match the 43" 4K and a 49" super ultrawide is too wide.

http://www.displaywars.com/43-inc...20x2160%7D

For reference I had a tilted 43" above and below my main 43" and they are imho too tall. The top one is too high to see (I switched it out for a super ultrawide 49 and it's fine for peripheral windows like Outlook Calendar, Microsoft ToDo, and Slack). The bottom one works well enough but it either goes too low if it's not tilted enough, or when tilted enough to be usable it's too deep so it pushes the main monitor too far away and you need a deep desk (or super skinny desk just holding a keyboard and mouse in my case). All IMHO.

EDIT: I just realized this is curved which may cause a problem with tilt alignment. Darn. Now I'm going into a rabbit hole of looking up flat 40" monitors. 🤣

Have a couple of the 40 inch LG versions of this 5k2kmonitor. Excellent for programming, decent picture-by-picture support if you want to split into 4K+side monitor. A steal at this price, paid $1k for each.

LG versions work great on the Mac mini via DisplayPort or Thunderbolt, both on intel last gen and m1/m2. Refresh rate might be 50hz or 72 hz at 5k2k but not noticeable and no issues. For an arm, you are at the limit of the standard ergotron/amazon basics arm, might need to step up to the HX arm

Isn't Samsung VA panel?

This claims to be nano IPS, which is LG panel (I believe).

While I don't have this monitor specifically, I have a 28in DecoGear that I got 2+ years ago when there were no deals on anything else with a short depth adjustable stand, and it's surprisingly good. Good to see the brand is still around.

5120x1440 is very different than 5120x2160. 5120x2160 is more like taking a 4K and adding horizontal resolution to make it into a widescreen 21:9 format. It's going to have higher PPI and thus better text. I'm personally interested in 5K2K for software development. 5120x1440 would be better than the 2560x1440 than I currently use, but I want sharper text and macOS does better with HiDPI.

Good catch. HDMI 2.0 cannot do true 5Kx2K 60hz 8bit. So looks like you can only use the DP 1.4 if you want to do that. Otherwise will have to use split screen mode and use two inputs at the same time

Lower res. Some people want wide monitors for more screen real-estate, it's not just gamers.

Any warranty info? Can't find any from Amazon. Any speakers like the LG version?

Nano IPS panel
5K2K resolution
21:9 aspect ratio
90 watt USB-C charging

Looks like a great alternative to the LG 40WP95C-W which is one of the best workspace monitors on the market right now.
