Got these on clearance from Kohls at $50 each. Returned them all. Still too expensive at $50 each.

Limitations:
- non-microwaveable
- battery doesn't last when set to highest temperature setting
- inside wears out too quickly
- non-dishwasher
- have to be thoroughly dried to avoid any moisture or water touching button when you place it on its charging coaster
- no top included (can be purchased as an extra charge

They do have a tumbler to go that I feel like would be much better. But that's more expensive.

A $10-15 insulated tumbler does a better job lol.

Yah know, I too poo-poo-ed this item too, relentlessly. Then Kohls had 'em marked down to $50 and I grabbed two. I ended up returning...one.

I gave it a week. Tried one of them out and swore they were both going back. But that little guy wouldn't let me do it. I had positive feelings for it and it for me. So, I returned his little brother (or sister as I couldn't tell what they were.)

I won't say the mug changed my life but sometimes it's the small things that can make life a little more bare-able (?), bere-rable (?), (how about just) tolerable. This mug won't last forever but is expected to function for a few hundred charging cycles according to its literature. Sure, it's one more battery charging cycle that is invisibly tying me down, but then again, so does my marriage (and that's for life.)

So, if you're curious, go ahead, give it a shot. It doesn't have to be a long-term commitment but if you're anything like me, you just might find another buddy to keep you warm inside. And that's me being sentimental, not gross. So stop it!

Regards,

Hank

I bought 2 from that sale, kept one gave one as a gift and we both love it! My coffee or tea stays warm first to last sip, no more heating in the microwave. Battery doesn't last forever but long enough for me, I'd say 45-1hr, long enough for me to drink 14 oz. I don't mind hand washing and drying it, I put back on it's base and it's charged by the next time I'm craving a cup of hot tea. I stir my drinks with a washable plastic straw to prevent scratching, and wash with cloth, use it at least twice a day and I don't see any scratches 😊

The straw idea is brilliant. I use a cheap chopstick to scrub away the dried bits with a little hot water and it works great.

my fav cloth for washing this is the cheap 2 pack microfiber dish cloths from dollar tree, with the mesh scrub material on the other side, those dry super fast too!

This tends to become a paperweight, buy from Costco for easy return. YMMV currently lower price on Amazon with coupon at the time I made this post

Generally looks like a fun gimmick, maybe also a nice gift, but over $100 is still a bit expensive. This one looks a little more elegant, the cheaper ones have a larger base but seem to work just as well.

Overpriced and coating chips off at the bottom after months even when rinsing after every use. This is not covered by their warranty. It's almost like expected and they still charge this much. There are other comparable knockoffs on Amazon. For those who are desperate, they're good last minute gift though.

I've received one (stainless steel version) as a gift several years ago and use it daily. It's incredibly nice to come back to your coffee / tea after doing something else and maybe forgetting about your drink and it's just the right temperature still.

There are some issues, but most can be mitigated. First, any time you have a hot beverage in a cup, the main cooling effect is evaporative cooling. Evaporative cooling involves a lot of energy (for water, it's basically an order of magnitude more energy than melting). So, the heater in the Ember is trying to counteract this effect and, as a result, only lasts ~1 hour or so due to battery capacity. If you leave it on the charger it will last forever, but then you end up with coffee sludge as all the water evaporates. The solution to both of these issues is pretty simple: a lid. Ember also sells a lid, and with it on my coffee stays the same concentration and the battery lasts for several hours.

The second issue is durability. These do have a coating that wears out over time (mine lasted ~2 years of daily use before it started to chip). You can mitigate that somewhat by using a soft brush when you wash it and preventing any buildup in the first place by both rinsing after use and using a lid (see previous paragraph) so you don't have to scrub it hard. Even so, it will eventually wear out.

I'm on my second one now, replaced due to the coating wear, and drinking from it right now. I don't really use the app much; used it once to set my preferred temp and that's it. To be clear, this product is one of those nice-to-have but not really needed things. You could get ~75% of the same effect by just using a good insulated travel mug. Even so, I still love mine.

For those that have a BJ's membership it's currently $89.99 there. But they only have the gray color.
