This is probably a stupid question, but what places are good for selling gold?

All of the "we buy gold" places look extremely sketchy to me, and it also seems risky to mail gold to an online service.

Another stupid question: The Citi Costco Card offers 2% cash back at Costco, and an executive membership also offers 2% cash back for a total of 4% cash back. If I use another Visa card that offers more than 2% cash back at warehouse stores, does that higher percentage cash back still combine with the executive membership bonus, or does the executive membership bonus only occur when also using the Citi Costco card?

You're right in that the "we buy gold" places are, in the majority, looking to take advantange of desperate and/or uninformed sellers.

Suprisingly, coin dealers will usually offer much better pricing.

Other options are face-to-face sales via FB marketplace (recommend you meet in police station parking lots or similar to transact) or the /pmsforsale subreddit where the custom is that buyers pay first and you ship your precious metals to them after receiving payment.

For question 2, yes, you can use executive membership to get 2%, then pay with your other visa to get whatever cash back it offers.

I wouldn't buy gold now though. I tend not to buy things at (or close to) their historical high. GLD is easier to trade. Gold bars are something you hold on for decades or as reserve for emergencies, e.g. on the run as a fugitive

anyone know how long until these lazy ass NJ politicians vote on removing tax on gold purchases?
When are you running for election?

Your really planning for the contingency of being on the run as a fugitive, I'm not even gonna ask why, I don't want to know.

Wonder how many people take this back to the store to return. Definitely would be interesting to watch someone whip out a gold brick and for the worker to ask what's wrong 😅. Always wonder how they certify stuff like this and jewelry if returned.

Oops. No returns
we returned a diamond ring and they did some tests to ensure the gold band and stone were real.

IAU has lower expenses and a better long term return...15 basis points a year is tough to make up on a buy and hold investment!

In for more!

Finally unloaded a bunch of bars from previous orders. Truly a wonderful experience. Truly!
How to unload? And what price do you get?
