Many TSA lines have the ID-scanning machines now, eliminating the need for presenting a boarding pass. All I have to do is present my ID to the TSA agent and go. No need for the Iris or fingerprint scan, and especially those unnecessary "random" ID checks!!

1. Was a clear member and it was expired long ago.
2. Log into my expired member account, and see this $75 uber voucher promotion if reactivate.
3. Decide to sign up using my Amex platinum card on 11/15.
4. Amex reimbursed me on 11/16 (well done, Amex!)
5. However, it has been one week since and I received no Uber voucher.
Actually I haven't even received an enrollment confirmation email from Clear!!! The online profile does show I have active membership which will expire on 11/15/24 (remember to cancel the auto renew!)
Not pleasant experience. At worse, I lose nothing but my time, but not a great company from my enrollment experience.
In ATL Clear has saved me some considerable time. My home airport not so much as I always take the first flight out in the morning, and sometimes beat TSA to the airport!
Edit: Added note that Clear won't always place you at the front of the PreCheck line. Seems to depend on the airport and their Clear setup.

You don't get CLEAR "instead"- You get CLEAR in addition to (and it's more a nice to have, rather than the REALLY nice to have of precheck).
You get to skip to the front of the precheck line after hitting their kiosk for ID
The other, arguably larger but less common, benefit is for places where precheck is closed, you STILL get to skip to the front of the line.
If you could only have one, GE is WAY better.... but there's no reason you can't have both, essentially free with credit card credits, and as others have noted sometimes it's not significantly better to use CLEAR, other times it's a big time saver.

Registration for CLEAR with facial recognition
Clear CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker announced earlier this month that Clear Plus users and verified members will be able to identify themselves via their face, eliminating the need to provide additional biometrics or stop at a Clear Pod before being escorted to the Transportation Security Administration lane.

I was told it's about 10 days to get the voucher FWIW
...but Clear is faster than standard screening.
I signed up for Clear at MCO when the line was a mile long. My precheck was expired at the time. It was great while I was waiting to renew TSA precheck.
With precheck, there have been very few occasions where Clear is any faster. Maybe 2-3 times through 50 flights in the last year. Typically I'm at the agent faster than passengers going through Clear at the same time.
If, for whatever reason, you don't want to register your fingerprints with the government for precheck, Clear might be a good option to expedite screening.
Global Entry on the other hand is a must-have. ORD is a nightmare. If you don't have one, prepare to stand in line for 2-3 hours when it's busy

95% I get a "random" ID check. I stopped using Clear. They also harassed my kids when we were all together. They don't have IDs and only need to tell you I am their dad once. Worthless
