For most of the major cities, I have traveled to, clear has been worthless. It's not as automated as it should be, so you still need a live person to help or escort you, so in the end the wait is just as long compared to to having tsa pre-check/global entry. For the money, having pre-check is a much better time saver. I get Clear for free through my united status and never use it anymore.
CLEAR is a joke. Pay to stand in a line that takes just as long as a regular TSA line. No Thanks.
Frequent traveler here. This program has become over saturated with the number of people using it. If you have TSA pre-check already, this no longer saves you time at most airports. Between having to wait for an available machine, to scanning boarding pass, to the Clear ambassador escort, to the "random" ID checks I get 70% of the time, it has been more stressful using CLEAR than going through normal TSA Pre-check.

Many TSA lines have the ID-scanning machines now, eliminating the need for presenting a boarding pass. All I have to do is present my ID to the TSA agent and go. No need for the Iris or fingerprint scan, and especially those unnecessary "random" ID checks!!

Let your account lapse, reactivate next day with the code- just did it, and confirmed via chat I'll get the uber voucher in a week
I tried to confirm this via chat also, and I was told "No, the Uber promotion is for New members who have never had a CLEAR account." So dont count on getting the credit. (Otherwise this promo is a no-brainer for people with a credit card that covers the cost, since you effectively get a free $75 uber credit.)

I've got the saved chat, so I'm not terribly concerned about getting the credit. Will try and remember to update the thread at that time though.

The "clear" line and process is never faster than precheck, especially since the barrier is so low now.

This won't exist more than a couple more years at best.

There's literally posts just a few above yours saying otherwise, by people who found it faster, so weird claim.

Further, if precheck is closed (which it sometimes is) it's always faster to use CLEAR on a non-precheck line than not have CLEAR.

The listed deal is an awful deal
A deal that if you have a card that pays for clear costs you zero dollars but gains you a $75 uber credit even if you never actually use clear at all is an awful deal?

Again, weird take.

I really don't understand as consumers how we allowed something like Clear to exist. It incentivizes keeping these checks as inconvenient as possible. You would think we would have maybe started talking about going back to pre-911 style checks, but that's now impossible when commercial interests are now embedded in the process.

I mean, same can be said about the entire TSA.

Has little to do with the deal in this thread though.

For folks who get CLEAR free via a CC benefit this is simple:
You get $75 in uber credit for $0.00 out of pocket.
AND
you get access to a program that MIGHT or MIGHT NOT save you a little time once in a while, but even if you never use it, still free $75 uber credit.

For folks who would be paying for CLEAR out of pocket- it's PROBABLY not worth bothering with unless you frequently fly in/out of places where precheck is often closed... (you MIGHT get time savings elsewhere, but it'd be rare it's enough to justify the cost).

Yes this is for new customer only. Here is the full terms in the email I received:

Limit one $75 Uber Voucher per customer. Uber Voucher will be sent to the email address on file for CLEAR Plus Members on or before 11/29/2023. CLEAR Plus Members who opted out of email marketing will not be eligible to receive the voucher via email. Uber Vouchers are valid until 5/29/2024. Subject to change or cancellation.

Promo must be applied at the time of sign up. Cannot be combined with any other offers. Available only to new CLEAR Plus Members.

Limited time only. Refunds for accounts created under promotion and cancelled within the first 12 months from enrollment will be subject to a $75 Uber Voucher fee and a $30 cancellation fee and refunded on a pro-rate basis thereafter.

There are 3 e-mail marketing options. Do we only have to enable the "special offers" e-mail preference?

Just share a not happy datapoint yet:
1. Was a clear member and it was expired long ago.
2. Log into my expired member account, and see this $75 uber voucher promotion if reactivate.
3. Decide to sign up using my Amex platinum card on 11/15.
4. Amex reimbursed me on 11/16 (well done, Amex!)
5. However, it has been one week since and I received no Uber voucher.

Actually I haven't even received an enrollment confirmation email from Clear!!! The online profile does show I have active membership which will expire on 11/15/24 (remember to cancel the auto renew!)

Not pleasant experience. At worse, I lose nothing but my time, but not a great company from my enrollment experience.
I got the same message and noticed it doesn't enter the code on the next page, so I ended up entering it myself. Not sure if that's the difference. Did you still see the terms about the $75 Uber voucher on "I agree" page?

As for it being a week since and not getting the voucher yet, I recall it taking longer than that for those who did the deal last month.

Clearly, Clear didn't pay SD to thumb down and remove all those negative comments.

Another frequent traveler here - all domestic - all over the US. Unless you get CLEAR paid for by your employer or credit card, don't waste your money. There has only been one time it truly helped - at SEATAC the TSA Pre line was "on hold" so I was able to go to a nearby checkpoint which was Clear+Non-Pre and bypass the line. Otherwise, 99% of the time the TSA Pre line was fine. OHare, DIA. MIA. DFW. SJC. HOU. MCI. LAS.

If you are a fellow road warrior who travels multiple times a week and can get it free, sure, always good to have all the options. But for the casual traveler, don't bother.

I have the Amex platinum but I wasn't going to sign up since I already have TSA Precheck and everyone said it's horrible. But since there's this deal, I just signed up...waiting for the Uber gift card ^_^

Yep, the main point of Clear was that the longest wait time was the document check. Now it isn't with the ID scanners.

They are rolling out a new facial recognition program which is supposed to automate the process… let's see how it goes

The annoying thing about Clear is, there are still many airports that don't offer it, otherwise I would consider this.
