Always go too big on your safe, they fill up quick and it sucks to have multiple.

Might hold 20 Red Ryders but that's it.
What are you keeping the AR safe from? And what are you using the AR to do?
This gun safe is guaranteed to:
A) Give peace of mind to your spouse.
B) Provide a very small amount of security. This means that a hard-core criminal can get into this safe fairly easily, but most general criminals would probably have a challenge as long as it is bolted carefully to the floor. That challenge time may allow your layered security (alarm, camera) to have time to alert you and for you to get police to respond. You need layered security to make any safe useful.
C) This steel is very very thin. The door is 14 gauge steel. Specs did not state thickness of side but they are usually thinner. It is not a true anti-criminal safe. This is for very light protection only. If you are in a very bad location, you will be targeted if they know you have a safe and they will get in. See below for steel gauge translation to actual thickness. Also note that steel thickness is not the entire story. What is behind the steel may help deter thieves – wallboard has minimal deterrence, whereas a second layer of stainless steel backed by a wire-imbedded concrete firewall will make it much more difficult to make entry.
D) This safe will stop a raccoon. Note this guarantee is only if there is no food available in it. Do not underestimate a raccoon.
E) On a serious note, it will keep guns safe from children as long as they do not get ahold of the code. Kids have great eyesight and are smart. They also like to search around. Keep your code in your bank safety deposit box or other very kid safe area.
F) This safe is for casual protection. Hard core protection is very expensive and very heavy. This safe is 260 pounds empty.
G) If you have a lot of guns/purses/shoes/jewelry, you will need a much bigger safe. These things store far less than they imply.
From Liberty Safes of Utah web site:
Understanding Gauge Ratings
Always make sure to check the gauge rating on a gun safe before making the decision to buy. And if you cannot find this rating on the safe or listed in the safe's spec sheet, ask your dealer for more information. If you are unfamiliar with how gauge ratings work, they can be a little confusing. The higher the gauge rating, the thinner the gun safe steel is. Therefore, you want to look for a safe that has a lower gauge rating.
Lower quality gun safe steel usually has a gauge between 14- to 20-gauge. This means the steel walls on the safe are very thin. The likelihood they will stand up to a drill or prying attack is low. Gun safe metal that is 14-gauge is 1.626mm (0.064") thick, while 20-gauge is a mere 0.9mm (.037") thick.
You should try to choose a safe made with thick steel that is between 12- and 6-gauge for the greatest protection. Gun safe metal that is 12-gauge is 2.057mm (0.081") thick, while 6-gauge is 4.166mm (0.164") thick. You will pay more for thicker gun safe steel, but it is well worth it.
