I keep trying to play this game after putting 40+ hours into it, and every time I find the endless pointless fetch quests and dialogue BORING.

I don't know why people bother consulting fellow SDers for product opinion. Literally every popular product will get trashed by SDers in every threads. The game is not a master piece but it's a great game. Well reviewed across the board. Check metacritic for both critics and user score yourself. Check other online reviewer yourself. Don't ask a bunch of negative SDers. The person complained about graphics literally need his eye checked too. The graphic is next gen. It's only got frame issue when it launched, and I don't know if it's been fixed by now.

This is making me sad! I've literally bought all my consoles for the last 30 years based on which ones FF was coming out on. Loved FF7 Remake on PS4 and was planning to eventually get a PS5 for FFXVI. Really hoping the mainline series doesn't fizzle out into mediocrity.

I've been a fan of the series up to IX. Then it all went downhill for me. All J-pop looking characters with over the top animations that looks like someone threw glitter over them everywhere.

The VII remake was okay. But I miss the old original animations from FFVI and FFIX mostly. Tactics was great. Now it looks too dated. Idk what they were trying to do with Stranger of Paradise nonsense.
It's horrible. But you should try it as you may have different feelings on it because some people love it. I would wait til it's 20$ or less though or just rent it from GameFly. It's not really a Final Fantasy game. Devil May Cry is the closest comparison. Hack n slash and repetitive.

Stranger of Paradise is the first FF game I have finished. It wasn't great but good enough. More action and while lots of useless battles they didn't take as long to complete with the action-focused game. Just bought 16 on GameFly because I am hoping it will be better than SoP.

For reference, games like Nier Automata, Nier, Witcher 3, Tales of Arise, Bayonetta, etc. are more my style. I have bought most FF games and have failed to finish because of the grinding and/or slow monotonous play. I despise games like Persona 5 that have to take too much time with story, even if "good" and don't let me play much while in ~45 minute increments. Expecting FF16 to be more action/fast paced??

Don't do it. Its a movie game for most people. Play through once and you won't want to play it again. I just borrowed a PS5 from a family member luckily and then I ebayed it for half of full launch price.
