The real use of the OCulink port would be an eGPU, not necessarily the M.2 2280 SSD.

I don't think you understood correctly. The Chassis has a cutout for the OCULink Port but for adding that, you need to add the supplied M.2 (PCIe Gen 4x4) to OCuLink Adapter to the 2nd M.2 Port, hence using that port and having one M.2 slot for adding SSD.

Non-barebones comes with windows 11 HOME. Storage is a basic Kingston NVME.
I'll be getting barebones and adding my own components.

notes : L3 cache is 16 MB on this model, Ryzenâ„¢ 7 7840HS @ 2700 MHz, Max Ram 64 GB if uses 5600 MHz, 96 for 4800 MHz. Can't go above 4K 60 Hz.

8MB L2 + 16MB L3 = 24MB Total Cache. And why it can't go above 4K@60Hz.
The HDMI 2.1 can run 4K @ 120Hz, the DP can run 4K@165Hz and the two USB 4 ports can run 8K @ 60Hz. I am using 7940HS and running a LG 4K 165 Hz Monitor at 120Hz using the HDMI 2.1

Please suggest memory and ssd deals to add to this barebone that are a better value or performance than the non-barebones minisforum is offering. Thank you!

For SSD, I think you should go with a 2TB one, in case you want to use the other M.2 port for adding the OCuLink Adapter. Crucial P5 Plus deal at $90 is apretty solid deal.

For Ram, going for 5600 MHz will give a decent boost to your integrated GPU but they costs a bit more than the most common 4800 MHz modules.
I think Crucial DDR5 5600 MHz 16GB module at $46 in newegg is a decent one. Get two of them for dual channel.

If you really want to optimize the 780m I'd go with this one:

I pulled my RAM [newegg.com] and SSD [amazon.com] from the UM790 Pro I just sold. I pre-ordered this on Nov 9th when it went live on official site. With the dual nic I can actually remove the unneeded Intel Wifi and replace with a 2230 SSD [amazon.com].

These new MiniPCs are amazing. I am becoming a MinisForum fanboy? I will also be pre-ordering Minisforum Project DRFXI [notebookcheck.net] or the BD770i [minisforum.com] if they release it with the 7945HX. The motherboard would pair really well with the JONSBO D31 MESH Case. [newegg.com]

The AMD 780M mobile is amazing on board graphics. However, Intel will soon be releasing FASTER iGPU CPUs soon. This will be so good for consumers. It is exciting to think of what the performace of budget offerings will be in a couple of years! ...or even this time next year.

I think the 7945HX MoDT platform will be released early next year and even I'm interested on that one.
