Performance of this card is more comparable to an RTX 4080. The 4080 still clobbers this card in ray tracing, but otherwise they're a close match. Since this is almost $400 cheaper than a 4080 and I don't care about ray tracing this is the clear buy for me.

My buddies are also 30-something dads that play warzone for 3 hours on Monday nights after our kids are in bed. And we're all local friends. Smilie

It's you.

I mean, it depends what you want, what your budget is, how much you game, etc. Value is subjective. I have a 38" ultrawide 1600p 144hz monitor that I love, and I want a GPU that will drive it. Do I need it? No, I'm a 30-something dad that plays warzone with buddies. Do I have a lot of discretionary income and it brings me joy? Yes.

Get a 3060 TI or a 6750XT if you want good performance/cost balance.

Is it me or is this card way too expensive (I would assume) for gaming?

I don't mean to be rude, but you got it going. You should probably spend more time with your kids and less time online with your "buddies" who all live in their parents basement.

Not a great price but not terrible. 6 months ago this was probably $850. I bought a comparable model from a different vendor for $810 from Amazon Warehouse in February (new was $850).

Prices aren't expected to get much better than current until the RTX super mid-cycle refresh in January.

I don't think this model (which is the 2nd from the absolute top) has ever been here.

Pretty nice deal. I got a 4080 on prime day for 989. I had a 6800 XT before so I have recent experience with both AMD and NVIDIA cards. In summary, I haven't been impressed with Ray Tracing, so while the 4080 is a good card overall, I do second guess my self when I see 7900 XTX deals. The 7900XTX is significantly faster than the 4080 at 4k non RT, 24 GB vs 16 GB, and a bigger bus. 4080 advantages are RT, DLSS, more energy efficient. I actually think AMD is more bug free than Nvidia so IMO I think most people will not be disappointed with the 7900 XTX unless you value RT or dislike FSR.

Nothing wrong with him playing with his ole buddies... after becoming a dad, I had to switch my gaming availability to "after kids go to bed" in regards to multiplayer gaming in general. Lately, real life gets in the way for everyone and I personally have been gaming solo during my spare time so I'm a bit envious of those who can "relive" those college days of LAN parties. All my buddies have come a long way since those college days of "budget" PCs and now most of us build ours with top tier components including 4090s. Humble beginnings though wandring Fry's Electronics and seeing all the stuff you can't afford...

Relative... Your "required" GPU depends on your monitor resolution and your "acceptable" framerate. If you have a 4K Monitor, don't expect much out of a potato card with only 8gb of VRAM.

You don't need a 4090 for a 1080p monitor...

After re-reading the articles (Tomshardware & Digitimes), it seems quite a few of the large 3rd party AIB's do their final production of 4090's in China. The export ban appears to also include manufacturing and assembly of the product. So there could be a lot of speculation going on around production right now.

Edit: And yes, the supply issue was also due to everyone trying to get their supply into China before the restrictions went into effect.
I'll have to do some more reading on this... Breaking my brain a little trying to wrap my head around how you could even ban the export of something that's technically already imported.

I'm really hoping Newegg matches this so we can use the ZIP111 code. Otherwise I'd be more inclined to take the NITRO+ deal.
Wishing I had your resolve. I have my fingers crossed that the NITRO doesn't go any lower, as I doubt I will be able to free up my newly minted Zip account in time to try and use the code again (if they would even allow me to do so).

I woke up today kicking myself because I thought this was a NITRO deal, after caving last night when I was finally fed up with pouring over the historical prices on Keepa for different cards Wink
