I was thinking about this, also got the Costco deal the other day, but supposedly Costco has forever return on AirPods according to what people have posted (some say no). Hard to say if that's worth the difference or even if it will still be the case a couple of years down the line (the returning to Costco).

I'm also not sold about keeping the Costco membership. And I'd think you'd have to have the current account active to do any returns…

This a good price though, especially if you're not doing AppleCare+. If you add AppleCare+ later it's still a bit cheaper than Costco after you take into account the taxes at Costco but not by much, in my state the difference is only $11 if adding AppleCare+ to the purchase at NEX.
