Not worth the money in my opinion. 7840HS is no doubt powerful, but because it can run at higher power, not for any architecture or core advantages. Now inside a big gaming laptop, that becomes a major factor because those can run the CPU at way higher TDP, near to 80W, for longer durtaion and on those scenarios, 7840HS can be significantly faster than a 7840U.

But in these slim and light small 14" laptops, with limited cooling, hardly the CPU can run at those kind of higher power and most cases they are maxed out to 35W-45W and the performance gap noarrows down due to that.

What do yall think of the 7840HS version with 64GB RAM and everything?
$1249 and 1061.65 after the coupon. Plus 10% cash back + AMEX offer.

I thought I was the first one to notice lol.

With Amex $150 off and 10% cash back it's effectively $745 before taxes. At that price it's a no brainer. Says ship date is by 1/08/24 but I'm not in a hurry.

Yes, even if it is not shipped. You can Google online to find stories from others. Sometimes they may cancel the restocking fee if you try hard. Anyway, it is a risk. It is not as simple as Amazon return.

Just curious as to why this 14" made the front page deals and the same laptop in 16" didn't? Unless I'm missing something, they are the same laptop except for the screen size?
Probably because of better display and size/weight. This one has a much higher resolution screen with higher brightness and colors. I also personally prefer the smaller size and lighter weight.

For those buying with Amex deal, what are you buying as filler to make it $999?

It currently shows a ship date of Jan 8. I am thinking about placing the order now and then cancelling it if a better deal comes along. I haven't bought anything from HP for a long long time. Anybody has recent experience cancelling not-yet-shipped orders? Thanks!

Man this thing is sweet. It has RDNA graphics. Passmark score is 25,000

I just recently got an elitebook 845 G8 with a ryzen 5 5650u pro and I thought that was impressive but this takes the cake. But I also paid 250$ for that laptop though. And it's Passmark score is 15,000

Can't wait for this one to show up on the used marked in a couple years 🤭

I just learned that amd is basically no longer supporting Vega graphics drivers anymore, just basic drivers moving forward. They are focusing on RDNA. The problem is lots of their APU desktop and laptop current gen stuff is based on Vega still. Very few of their laptops have RDNA yet
curious where you got G8 for $250?

Based on other post looks like I'll be charged for restocking fee even when no shipping involved
