After spending years shopping for a digital piano, it seemed the only way to get touch comparable to a mechanical piano was with a $10k Yamaha hybrid piano. Then tried a Kawai CA49, was pleasantly surprised, bought it for $1549, and today am fully satisfied.

IMO it's almost like playing 2 different types of instruments.

I've had a few digital pianos over the years (Yamaha P-120, Kawai ES920, currently have a Studiologic Numa X GT which has one of the nicer keybeds I've used) and a few acoustics (older Yamaha P202 and a currently a new-ish Kawai K-400).

I "built up" the digital pianos with some nice studio monitors, good VST software (Pianoteq, VSL, etc.). As configured the digital sounds nice, lets you practice with headphones, MIDI vs USB for digital apps, etc., but it lacks the touch, the feedback, the vibration, the enveloping sound, etc. with an acoustic. I use the digital when I have to, the rest of the time I'm on the acoustic, it just feels more alive.

Been waiting for a deal on this model for a while now. Adorama gave me trouble with two CVV codes on two different cards that I know to be correct and typed in twice each, but GPay worked.

Got it. Had Adorama credit card but evidently to use it, one needs to login first. Got the card specifically for this piano. Was waiting for the white one.

Strangely, the price is only this low by following a link here. On its own, there is no discount from $2K.

Stay away- there are lots of damaged keyboards if you look at previous CA49 threads. Even replacements had the same issue. Seems like defect may be manufacture rather than shipping

there was that yamaha one from adorama for 1650 (drops to that price randomly) is it worth the extra 300 bucks to get the yamaha one if comes back on sale? i don't know what kawayi brand is and have not much research into this area. don't know if i will ever need to sell it but would the yamaha one hold it's value better since people know that one more?

No, I wouldn't expect a Yamaha to hold it's value much, but maybe better than these Kawai's if you can get a Yamaha for cheaper. My favorite digital piano's are Rolands. Best sounds ever in my opinion and not crazy high priced like Kawai.

I bought the ES520 after doing a taste test of all models I could find. Sat down and played with it for an hour and knew this was the wand for me. Also fully satisfied at the value.
