I knows this particular config is pretty popular and this is the lowest I've seen it this BF without messing with gift cards.

Definitely the configuration I want to get. Don't even need the 512gb, which brings it down to $1099. Just need the 16gb ram in a 13".

Will there be anyplace else selling this tomorrow / Black Friday? I can't even find a 13" Air with 16gb listed at Best Buy.

Anything with 16gb is a BTO option so they're hard to find. Your only real options are Apple, B&H or Adorama.

So, you need to open up a B&H credit card to save on taxes now? I remember back in the day B&H use to be tax-free.

But you are in the MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro (refurbished with apple warranty) level that sells for as low as $1249. And it's much better value in my book

Unless you are in a sales tax free state, you have to pay because of a Supreme Court ruling in 2018. So, B&H came up with the card to prevent any erosion in sales from states with sales taxes.

This is a gift - Gifting a refurb is kinda low IMHO. Totally agree that it's a better value.

It may be a better value but the latest OS upgrade spells out an M2 or higher processor is needed for certain features now.

I'm on the latest OS with M1. Working fine. What's your source?

It's in the release notes from Apple. I never said it won't work fine. Just that Apple is requiring an M2 for some new minor features. You'll never notice it if you have an M1. And, there's a few more missing if you an Intel Mac.
I have an i9 MacBook Pro and my daughter has an M2 Max MacBook Pro, so I always read the release notes to see what Apple is up to.
Apple is known for utilizing new capabilities, so I'm sure it will become more apparent in later OS versions.

The only feature I could find on macOS Sonoma that won't work with M1 chips is using MFi hearing aids on your computer:

Is it worth an extra $100 to go from 8GB ram ($1199 at BB / Costco) up to 16GB?

This will be light use (browsing, ms office, etc) so 8GB is fine for now but I'm worried about 3-4 years from now.

The usual premium to upgrade to 16 GB is $200.

For your use case, 8 GB would be fine, however, double the ram for $100 is a deal in itself for MacBooks.

I'd personally pay the extra $100 for 16 GB. Better resale as well if you plan to upgrade in a few years.

Plus your usage of the MacBook could change/evolve. Maybe you get into some light video/photo editing or something.

16 GB all the way.
