TracFone will provide an unlocking code or codes to customers who request unlocking, provided the cellphones meet the following conditions:
* The cellphone must be in working condition.
* The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost, and there are no indicators of fraud.
* For cellphones activated with TracFone prior to November 23, 2021 on any carrier network, the cellphone must have been active with TracFone Service for no fewer than twelve (12) months.
* For cellphones activated with TracFone on the T-Mobile or AT&T networks on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone must have been active with TracFone Service for no fewer than twelve (12) months.
* For cellphones activated with new service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, at least sixty (60) days must have elapsed since the cellphone was activated. For any active cellphones, notification of the phone's unlock eligibility will be sent via SMS along with a link to the website where the unlock process can be accessed.

If you try to activate within a couple of months and there's a problem, you may be able to dispute the purchase with some credit cards (because the full service you purchased (namely the minutes & time) wasn't delivered), if HSN/Tracfone says too much time has passed and won't make things right.
Or, for people who don't use the phone much, you can purchase a 1 year extension of the time on Tracfone. This option only shows up if you put something else in your shopping cart (you can buy 1000 texts for something like $5) or 30 days/30 minutes for something 9.99 - then when you go to check out, the option to buy the time-only 1 year extension shows up. At this point, you may be able to cancel the thing you put in your shopping basket and buy the 1 year extension (I've done that successfully, but not for about a year, so you just have to try it and see).
I know on some phones, I've seen it stated that you can only originate calls from the US.
I wanted to use this as a GPS tracker for my trailer and use a small solar panel to keep it charged.,
is this phone OK for that ?

I mean it's a good price for the service, but the phone is going to be awful.
Not sure if I should get it for an extra phone.
