I have compared Turbotax and Block over the course of the past decade, the last time was 2021 return. I typically buy Turbotax premier and the equivalent Block, do my taxes in both. First the approach is different. Turbotax takes a black box approach - you go thru the interview and it spits out the filled tax forms. Block takes a hand holding approach - you go thru the interview and it explains how it takes the info and populates the tax form. So I prefer Block especially when I need to do something custom. However Block is not as complete as Turbotax when it comes to filling out some of the complex forms. There was a huge difference 10 years ago and Block has been slowly catching up. In 2021 there was only 1 form that Turbotax had that Block didnt that I needed. Turbotax was a mess in 2021. Some of the required forms were not done before April 15, some were completed just a week earlier and way past when Turbotax promised them, and they were unresponsive to queries, just told people to wait. 2022 was a little better.

Bottom line - if you dont need the complexity of Turbotax premier and have relatively simple taxes like most people, go with the cheaper Block or even with the new free versions.

As soon as Block completely catches up with Turbotax in terms of completeness, I will move over. I find Turbotax's current attitude arrogant and anti-customer. e.g. you have a complaint or suggestion? - too bad, whats your problem?. This is coming from a person who has used Turbotax the last 30 years, so you can gather that it takes a lot to get me to switch. Only when Turbotax starts losing customers will they realize that they need to treat their customers with care.

The government needs to hurry and fix this mess. Intuit turbo tax is a complete ripoff and takes advantage of the American people due to the government's inability to offer an easy way to do taxes. Fix this!!

Intuit has people influencing the gov't NOT to fix it.

The US has one of the worst, if not the worst, tax and healthcare systems in the developed world.
