While this may have been true 10+ years ago, there are more recent side-by-side comparisons/reviews that show differently.

Norton is much more lightweight than it used to be and is actually just as efficient (if not more) than other top AV software.
Windows defender is more than sufficient.

While i get it where you are coming from. Is about providing context. You should know this. For example: do you know what phishing is? No? Get norton! Do you? So do use a vm or snapshot machine to open that weird link instead of using your machine/browser? Then you dont need Norton. Do you visit all kinds of website or usually the same normal secured sites, etc etc etc. also people in regular companies might get more phishing attempts than your normal Joe without a linkedin advertising what he or she does for the company.

In short, Just because you work for a 500 tfc doesn't explain why you might or may not need an av. I work for a top 3 fortune, and im a very likely target for hackers and i still dont need it. My wife? 100% needs it!!! To be fair, probably 70% of the internet users do! It all depends what you use your machine for.

People, Dont open links from people you dont trust. If you must, google "snapshot machine" and do it there in a safe environment. You will get a screenshot and true url of the link you got sent. Dont do this for your job or they would think tou are a security risks because you opened the personalized url they sent you to test you. Lol

I feel the same. Windows defender is sufficient. Even edge and chrome has built in security malicious sites. I bought a laptop that came with 1 year free subscription of McAfee, I uninstalled it the moment I setup my machine
those are only good for the polite and soft spoken. You need a bit tougher for the other category.

Just a heads up if you do purchase the Norton.. remove the credit card info they will demand from you in order to make the product work... it's actually pretty easy you just go into the norton account they'll have you create (or log into the existing norton account you might already have), turn off auto renew and delete the credit card info, pay careful attention to the prompts on the bottom I recall them highlighting the "don't cancel " type prompts in yellow to try to get the unwary clicker to select it by mistake Stick Out Tongue .. I've done this repeatedly with my Norton purchases without any problems and Norton still works.

If you don't do this Norton can and will charge you some horribly large amount when your subscription requires automatically and without your approval .. I've heard horror stories about how Norton will refuse to back down and won't reverse the charges so definitely remove that credit card info !
Last month it happened to me and they charged my credit card even though the card that was saved in my account had expired dates and after I received the new card, I didn't update the new expiry dates but still Norton charged my card and the disgusting thing is my credit card institute approved the $154 charge and I have filed a dispute and the case is still not resolved.

Does anybody knows where in the account section I can find the option to remove the Auto Renewal setting?

Most companies i know use Norton. With so many hacks I would get this. It also has VPN in the package you can use when using unsecured WIFI. Also tells you if url is legit or not.

I tried these no name VPNs before and after some months they magically no longer let you download torrents.

I was just charged and used the chat feature to get it refunded. I told them I already purchased a new activation code and don't need the renewal. The agent said he understands and will refund but had to let me know he can offer me a 20% discount (off of $120 - HA!). The credit was on my PayPal account the next day.

Also, someone a few posts before yours gave step by step directions about removing renewal and credit card from account.

Good luck with your refund. Let us know when actual credit posts to your payment card.
They said, they refunded for me and got the email confirmation but it's been 5 weeks and nothing credited to my credit card and I have disputed with CC and still pending investigation.
Norton seems to be most terrible company I have come across.

I don't count on luck, but I do take blessings! Caught it same day and refund through PayPal already posted. Never even went through to card.
What's shady though is my records show I had another month...which I think is the case because it's still running on my computer. It actually just blocked a script.

windows defender is terrible and anyone who actually goes to any anime r music websites will tell you that most viruses these days are scripts that are downloaded once you visit a webpage.
So I would never use that, I don't like paying for AV personally so Kaspersky free and Comodo firewall is enough imao.

Most people need something for scripts that's the main thing these days, ransonware is more towards the rich folks with alot of assets most of us ransomware is going to happen.

avvg free is enough for most people along with some common sense.
