There are no banned books in America except ones that teach you how to make bombs or child porn. There are books that have been removed from school libraries but can be purchased on Amazon.

If a book is removed from Amazon, no listing not just unavailable, does that make it banned?

My family has pointed out a few books that are no longer listed in Amazons catalog…

The definition of banned is muddled between school, county, state, or federal jurisdiction. Also technically not banned is when a publisher, with or without government interference chooses to re-wright an authors intention to reflect more positively on the government such as Farenheit 457, or eliminate or edit out entire passeges in novels as was the last chapter in Clockwork Orange. Another option the federal government takes is to sue the writer/publisher for all proceeds of a book to keep it from being published or reprinted in any quantity as was the case in Mark Bisonotte's No Easy Day.

The generally understanding of banned is legally unavailable by operation of law. Hckleberry Finn is removed from libraries due to use of n word but no one would considered it banned.

I agree that normally banned means a government blocking their citizens access to a book in their county.

But my contemplation is as book access centralizes to one main source, can a non government person there make a decision that effectively "bans" a book? Does our definition need to evolve with us?
