So why is this monitor bad? And why do people hate VA? I own a VA monitor and it works fine as far as I can tell. Looks good otherwise.

No idea. I have Dell Ultrasharp IPS monitors at work, LG OLED TVs at home, and I generally prefer VA monitors for personal use. I'd understand if it was like a TN panel but I find VA to be ideal for mixed use.
