Bought a bunch of Acer's over the years for my clients. One by one they all died. Literally all the Dells I bought them are still working. This is like 10 years later. I'm done buying Acer. Their stuff doesn't last. It's nice for a year or two though.

Tricky question. The key contrast here is presumably between the i3-N305 (being an Efficiency-core only CPU) and those other 12th generation CPUs which incorporate Performance-cores or a mix of P-cores and E-cores. The 12th generation E-cores have come a long way from their Atom-based roots, providing single core performance comparable to 6th generation i-series CPUs. However, P-cores haven't stood still either relative to earlier i-series CPU cores. As a result, benchmarking has suggested that the 8-core N305 provides performance close to, but not necessarily exceeding that, of reference 4-core i-series CPUs from recent generations (the i5-1135G7 or, my personal favorite sleeper, the i3-1125G4 come to mind). At the same time, the efficiency of these newer E-cores is hard to beat. This suggests that the N305 is a solid productivity CPU in a way which wasn't necessarily true of older 2- and 4-core Atom-based designs. However, bargain shoppers might continue to make the case that 2P+4E designs represent better bang-for-buck or that older 4-core i-series CPUs are better long-term investments in some applications.

So if you're worried that the N305 will disappoint in the way that other Atom-based CPUs have as general purpose PCs you can breathe a sigh of relief. However, don't go trashing all your 4-core i-series PCs just yet...

Good luck!
Jon

These are not comparable machines. The one you linked to is a much bigger and heavier machine.
What's the difference in weight between this 14" and those 15.6" ones? I'd rather have a 14" screen even though I know the processor is not as good being only i3....

Is this about as power-efficient as we'll get on a Intel-based touchscreen Windows laptop nowadays? If it can last a whole day without needing a charge, I'm thinking something like this will be good for students (office apps, notes, web browsing, email, etc.).

Can this laptop be recharged via its USB-C port?

In the Acer eBay listing, there are other refurbished Acer laptops for sale. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing when they say 1625 units or 2352 units of one particular laptop already sold. They can really supply a large quantity of refurbished laptops.

The i3 is actually slightly better than the AMD 5 on CPU benchmark

Which Model Acer are you talking about?

I have a few Acer. My 2010 5517 still works, the CFL backlight is shot. My 2012 still works flawless, but the adapter aren't universal acer compatible. They last too long that I only forced buy a new Windows 10 laptop in 2022.

Their recent laptops, the power brick adapter fails within a year. This certainly a light duty laptop.

Toshiba, pre 2021 Dell Latitude 5000/7000 series last long too

Is this another apple clone with soldered ram? Useless make it a Linux or chrome book machine. It's worthless with windows. Worth 100 bucks at most

8gb is a fine choice today? I'm going to report you for lying.

Its not a good choice since 5 yrs ago.

The only use of this is remove windows and use Linux or make these all chrome books worthless pieces of useless products because they wanted to be like apple

Daggone it! So close to what I was looking for. Just enough power for my needs and good battery life but NOT enough RAM for liking. 16GB RAM please.

This is such a BS reply. My daily use laptop is a Asus K53E with 8gb ram. I run photoshop, illustrator, and premier daily. Never touched the ram up until this point and it's running great. 8gb ram is 100% enough for many uses, even today.
