I used desktop deluxe for stock last year. Maybe you are thinking about online.
No, the desktop/CD version. I had so many issues downloading stock transactions with Schwab. Spent ~3 hours on the phone with Intuit. It was very odd because I've been using the Deluxe version for 14 years, and it's always worked before.

The PC / Mac disc version in past years can be shared among 5 people, which greatly reduces the cost of the software. But I received this email from Turbo a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure if the software is shareable anymore.

"To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you'll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don't already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account"

Would appreciate any insights or thoughts on this

FYI I've paid $58.xx each of the last 3 years from Amazon for TurboTax Premier + state. Looks like I always bought in December or January. This is no deal.

I have to help my mom filing her taxes for the first time this year. My dad did it in years past with TurboTax (and I use it too). What's the most economical way for me to buy this to file for both my house and hers?

[quote="observer1313;167452585"]Few people need premier. For the vast majority the only advantage with premier is more hand holding.

My offer was 40%. Enrolled in shop with points on Amazon using Discover.
Clicked a link to see if my card was eligible for the promotion.
Chose Discover as payment method. Used $1 in points.
(Followed instructions and links from a tutorial on cnn underscored.)

$27.95 forFed/State/$10 gc after tax/applied $1 in Amazon points. Saved $18.40!

For those that have to pay to e-file state I would blame it on your state. Some states have passed legislation mandating that e-file be free.

The other thing is the IRS is releasing its own e-filing module which may be free.

I've used the product for years... you have to pay to e-file or you can print and mail in. It literally says it in the description

"State e-file sold separately. Free U.S.-based product support (hours may vary)."

Call support if you don't believe me
You didn't mention state e-filing in your comment that claims they charge for e-filing. Let's be clear with the facts:
  • Some editions of TurboTax include federal e-filing for free
  • No edition of TurboTax includes state e-filing for free*
* with the exception of New York. In that case, state e-filing is also free.

Maybe this is not the thread for it, but I entered my details into TurboTax online (get started for free) and also FreeTaxUSA and got the same results so I submitted for free with FreeTaxUSA and saved myself the purchase price of TurboTax.
