It was $34.99 last year for Federal and State at the end of December with $10 gift card. I'm going to wait for that or see if Costco has similar promotion.

Or in a state that allows for free state e-filing after importing TT federal returns.

Why the premier is so expensive? Last year I bought at $54 including $10.

Hmmm, never saw the $34.99 last year. Mine was $36.99. Really wanted the $29.99 as the previous 3 years!

My Order History:
TT Deluxe 2019 - $29.99 - Ordered Jan 7, 2020
TT Deluxe 2020 - $29.99 & $10.00 Amazon GC - Ordered Dec 26, 2020
TT Deluxe 2021 - $29.99 & $10.00 Amazon GC - Ordered Dec 29, 2021
TT Deluxe 2022 - $36.99 & $10.00 Amazon GC - Ordered Dec 28, 2022

Current Deal - $37.99 + $10.00 Amazon GC. Is this the best we're going to get? I screwed up for TT 2019 not realizing I had just missed the after Christmas TT GC. Caught it the last 3 years as you can see, but is $37/$38 the best price now? Last year it came nowhere close to $29.99 and the GC. I am in FL so I don't need State and I file for me/wife and and do our son's using our copy of TT as well. I don't like online TT.

I think I'm done paying turbotax fees. Anyone ever use this site? https://www.freetaxusa.com Found it last year or the year before but never tried it.
Tax returns have some of your most sensitive information. I am not giving that to a no name company to save a few bucks. Intuit is one of the very few companies I trust with this info.

I agreed. That person must have forgotten that price was after $10 Amazon gc. I always ordered on the last day of December.
Going to order early this year. $1 more expensive than last year.

Costco has it for $27.99? pics? Location? Or did you not notice the $10 Amazon gc with the deal?
Costco is $37.99, plus $10 in-turbotax credit. So if you pay to e-file, it works out the same, but with no BUY NOW CYBER MONDAY OMG rush.

This is true. Some Fidelity customers will be able to get Premier for free. Every year, there is a long thread on Bogleheads where people try to figure out how to qualify. Here's a summary:
  • No one knows.
  • Any time someone thinks that they know, counterexamples prove it wrong.
  • Fidelity customer service reps don't know, though they may claim they do.
  • Fidelity client advisors don't know, though they may claim they do.
  • It is not necessarily Private Client status.
  • It is not necessarily heavy traders.
  • It is not necessarily related to size of assets you have at Fidelity in any particular type of account.
If you are eligible for this, it will show up on your home screen usually on the Thursday after December 15th. However, last year it appeared on a Wednesday. This year, first Thursday after the 15th will be almost a week away, so I suspect it will be sooner.

Last year, there was a production and beta version of the home page and only one of those versions saw the offer. By the way, everybody sees some TurboTax offer on the Fidelity site if you search for it, but that's for some very small discounts.

For what's its worth, I've used freetaxusa for the past two years with no issues. Also, last year I did both TurboTax and freetaxusa, my refund was slightly higher with freetaxusa with the exact same inputs.
