It does not suks at all. People have a very worng idea that display brightness is the only thing for display quality measurement. This has same quality as say Lenovo Legion Pro 5's display but just a bit dim. As per Notebookheck.net review, it goes around 371 nits max brightness.
Performance wise, this is pretty solid laptop and can sustain the higher CPU and GPU power during load.

7845HX is more powerful and much energy efficient. However, you'll lose Thunderbolt and USB4 connectivity with it, if that matters to you.

Pulled the trigger on this. Also got the care pack that is fully refundable if you don't use it over the 3 years at a BF discount. Slick AF.

Yes, 1st time actually. Also, this laptop has been tested by Notebookcheck with RTX 4080, with same 175W max TGP as the 4090 and it was capable of holding that power during gaming sessions without getting too hot. Performance wise, this is pretty solid deal and it has decent build quality as well.

It's tempting but I've been looking at this model for over a month and ultimately picked the$1900 legion pro 7 with rtx 4080 over the omen. You lose a little performance but there are a lot more benefits. The omen can handle a 4090, but if you want top performance, you need to set the fans to max. The cooling is not as robust as the legion's vapor chamber and the legion has more undervoltimg potential. The gaming performance after tweaking will likely be the same, but the legion will run cooler and quieter. You also get way better cpu performance, not only because the 13900hx is faster with more cores, but the power limits on the legion are much much higher, allowing to run it fully for longer. You also get twice the ram that is faster, twice the storage, better screen, and better keyboard layout, and arguably better build quality. And the screen doesn't wobble 🤓

There is no question to me that your take is spot on. The legion build quality compared to anything HP is definitely noticeable.
