Many layers here but in general you do not need a mixer for karaoke. The simplest home setup is to use something like what's pictured here as the "voice" speaker and your home entertainment center as the lyrics display and music play. (Using your home theater speakers for voice can damage them)

To get karaoke versions of songs you An application like KaraFun or YouTube both run very well on an Apple TV.

I started with a jbl party box 100 (very similar to this) and ran the audio output of my laptop to the input on the speaker and then an hdmi cable from laptop to television. To get the music and voice both coming out of the jbl.

It's a deep ocean and I don't want to threadjack any farther but In general yes something like this can make a great home karaoke setup.

I'm sure there are many ways to do it. But I use a PA system like this to amplify the vocals. And play the music tracks through my home theater system. You have to tweak the volume of each to get the right balance. But it's not hard to do, and It sounds great!

I use an Apple TV, and the Sing feature on Apple Music to get tracks without vocals, and lyrics on my TV screen. There are also countless YouTube channels that have songs and lyrics sans vocals.

This is just a speaker and microphone. It does not cancel the vocals to create a karaoke instrumental track. You don't need a mixer, but a device that has karaoke tracks, like a laptop or mobile device with Youtube/karaoke software, or a "Magic Mic" karaoke system, etc.

While you don't need a mixer, if you want to use different mics other than the included wireless mics, then yes, you'd need a mixer and connect it to this speaker via the aux port.

would you recommend to buy this unit or buy a partybox 110 instead with separate mics. Partybox 110 is a better speaker I believe for using it just just as a speaker/pairing multiple 110 speakers together. Also can you share the link of fifine mics?

Those fifine mics are really good because of the 2 channel mixer with the echo effect. For the price I would go the party box 110 with the fifine mics.

The jbl mics are actually really nice but the reason I'd recommend the 110 is as you pointed out it's a much better speaker.

I bought this from Sams during the summer (90 day refund period is over) ; and i paid $249+tax ; and that was onsale ! Samsclub also had the 2 mics.. For some reason Sams has this unit priced at $299 during Black Friday but Walmart is cheaper, go figure.

The party box 110 is currently $250 and the fifine mics are $53, so that's about $300 vs the $179 of this deal, almost twice the price. Is there a cheaper place to get the ones you recommend?

I understand what you're saying. The 100 watt encore is completely fine.

The other poster specifically asked about that setup and in my opinion it is objectively better. (The party box 110 is 160 watts and has a more full sound for listening) Cheaper no. Better yes.

As for cheaper on the 110 this is about as low as I've seen them. Slightly better deals can infrequently be had on the party box 100 if any remain in circulation. I've got mine for 179 and 200.

Fair warning: they are a gateway drug and I now have a multi thousand dollar professional setup.
