For $6.86, these are good enough quality/brand wise versus paying $26 for the equivalent Knipex or Klein Tools brands.

Made in USA doesn't really matter much anymore they way it used to because that is more scam now than anything. The quality gap isn't really that large anymore. Prices are outrageous and do not justify. Though these Irwin vise grips are made in Taiwan now, for a price like this, they are much better overall value at $6 and change.

Hey, I'm a Doyle at HF guy, usually w/ a 20-30% coupon, lifetime guarantee, so Knipex/Klein is not for me.

I was etching my initials into tools at work using a Dremel. I couldn't break the surface on my vise grips.
Also, this deal isn't prime-only, like so many black Friday deals. In for a spare.

Well, their loss. Although they're a shadow of the originals, Irwin's are still a respectable tool, especially at their price point. Project Farm gave them good marks as well.

This is quite the broad claim with literally 0 qualifications. There are many things made in different areas (like Kinipex Cobras and Eagle Grips) that are of insane quality and totally worth the price for the right people. Most people are just fine with decent quality $6 vice grips and thats fine too.

Personally, I like supporting the hardworking folks around me when I can.

This is useful for grabbing onto small springs and parts if you mod/repair your own equipment. Bought one months ago without the discount. It works as described.

Generally speaking, he is correct. He was making a broad statement because he was making a general statement. The fact that you prefer to support people in your area doesn't invalidate what he said. Because of better quality controls, the difference in quality isn't what it once was. Taking cost into consideration reduces that disparity even further.
I'm guessing just experience qualifies most of us to make general statements like that.

Taiwan is actually mostly high quality stuff.
