Ordered two sets from Amazon and both boxes arrived ripped, beat up and bulging in the centers. Opened them up and there were sockets and broken tray fragments all over the place. 5 out of 6 trays were broken and I was missing two sockets in one set and 4 sockets and an extension in the other. I would make one good set and return the other, but they trays are unusable.

Seems Project Farm mostly focused on ratchets and the DeWalt didn't hold up too well. I suspect for a lot of people having the sockets is the main attraction and the ratchets are kind of just there to have. At least it is for me :shrug:

the box you buying is toughsystem 2.0 and i believe this sets tray is for toughsystem 1.0

beak on 200ft lb on rachet? shouldn't worry you because people should use the breaker bar for that much torque

Got UPS shipping info from the Ebay seller. I'm in DFW and it's shipping from about 25-30ish minutes north in Irving, TX. Says to be coming from UNITED STATIONERS. I might be one of the first to receive theirs so I'll update if the Ebay listing comes with the actual box or not. Not holding my breath. Have a Kobalt box unopened I I got on clearance intended to finally open and use anyway for tools in our new truck so if the Dewalt box isn't included no skin off my back.

Yeah, honestly, I have some that is okay, and you're right that it's gotten better. I've had some junk too though, so with a tool set this cheap from a respected brand, DeWalt wins hands down.

Dang, I love PF but that review method was weak. Look at the price differences in the kits - literally >2x the price from the cheapest to the most expensive but he never really factored that in. And the performance differences were pretty mild, talking all within 5-10% of each other.

I wish he had done a test with the sockets to see how much force they could take before rounding or breaking, if that happened before the socket breaking - and even more importantly what their tolerances are since that is usually the one thing, other than ratchet performance, that is a concern. It sucks when the socket tolerances are not good, can end up rounding a bolt with low force, as in the wrench testing. The only tolerance test was those wrenches, but his Dewalt kit didn't have any to test.

Of course if money isn't a big deal or you are planning to use them a lot, I honestly agree with him that paying 2-3x the price for a set that includes all the inbetween sizes and is high quality is worth it.. but when money IS a factor it's hard to recommend paying twice as much for a bunch of less common sizes that you may never need. And in that comparison, among the "reasonably prices" kits the Dewalt had a better selection of sizes too.


While I'm replying might as well address someone else saying to the original kit came with the 1.0 version of the toughbox, the versions seem to be mostly superficial and they're compatible with each other so it doesn't matter. If you can find a good deal on the 1.0 or the 2.0 box for these then more power to you, but for right now it's about $130 to assemble the tools and box.
