It's for transmitting a signal (up to 4k) to a remote location. Running long HDMI cables isn't really an option with 4k. I'm setting up two 40" monitors in my bedroom (one personal and one for work) to be able to function after having major back surgery. The two computers are located a couple rooms over in my house. So I can operate the same computers from my office or my bedroom. It also has IR capability so if you use this to run an HDMI signal from a Blu-Ray player, etc., you can still use a remote control from the other room and the signal will travel remotely. Another example is if you have a surveillance system running on a NVR, you could use this to transmit the signal to the living room TV so you could check the cameras remotely (without having to log into the app on your phone). One more example would be if you have your gaming system in your office, but also want to be able to use it in your living room, etc. That's kind of a basic description.

I recommend trying to pull a fiber optic hdmi cable instead if you can. Works perfect at full bandwidth, no limitations

Use code extra30 to bring final price down to 48.99. Works on lots of stuff I believe over $50. Including the HDR version you are posting next.

I don't see why not. I'm not really familiar with DirectTV, but this takes the HDMI signal (video and sound) and transmits it to another location using a CAT6 cable. You can use a remote control with it, as well, and it will transmit the signal to the DirectTV from the remote location. If your TV/monitor that you want to transmit the signal to is capable of HDR, then you would want to get the other one I posted. If it isn't capable of HDR, then this one should work fine. There are 66 questions/answers listed on the product page which outline all sorts of uses for this.

So if I understand correctly, the transmitter and base units need to be connected with a separate CAT6 (LAN) cable and you can't just plug these into your existing "mesh" access points?

How is the latency? Is this feasible for gaming?

Yes, no latency, it's more or less like using a longer cable

Yes but the downside of this one is it doesn't have USB ports. Some versions also have USB 2.0 so you can plug in a controller if you wanted to as well. Still a great price though if you are able to use a wireless controller or something with enough range.
