This has a 5 year warranty and no warranty risks from shucking

These are definitely better quality drives than the shuckable 18tb ones. You get the full 5 year warranty and know exactly what drives these are. The white labels could be anything from factory seconds or drives that don't meet their retail model standards.

How does this stack up to the $200 18tb wd essential from BB?

Would this be very slow for someone editing large raw image files from? Would an 8tb Samsung qvo be a good alternative if this person needs a lot of fast storage space for photo editing or is this not too bad? Thx!

Obviously that's better from price/TB. But that also requires shucking etc which one must feel comfortable with. This is an easier path for NAS ready drives.

Glad I chose the slow shipping with Amazon on those two 10tb WD Red drives . Just cancelled those and upgraded to these. Only an extra $100 for an additional 12tb. The other two drives in my NAS will be 10tb each, I hope it doesn't cause any problems mixing and matching. I think I've heard when you mix drives in a four bay NAS, you're limited to the two smallest capacities. Can anyone clarify this for me? I'll be using a QNAP 464.

NAS manufacturers have you locked behind not just model compatibility but FIRMWARE revision? That's batshit insane

Depends on who you ask. Some say the noise is higher with Seagate. Also when they first came out, they had high fail rate so got a bed rep. From my research recently there's not much difference it seems outside of the higher noise. But I've also heard some say that it's not noticeable from the noise. I had WD Red Pro 8TB right now so I just need higher storage and I don't care for the noise as it's not in my bedroom or anything

Depends on your setup. I have Synology NAS and I use their SHR which you can mix sizes and it will auto fix it for you. If you run a traditional RAID set up they don't play well with different sizes
