From what I understand you can buy now and just wait until your ultimate expires and then put your 3 years in and convert.

I'd personally wait until getting close to expiration, it's usually pretty easy to find deals like this.

From what I understand you can buy now and just wait until your ultimate expires and then put your 3 years in and convert.

You could do that. The risk is the chance of a bot guessing your code by the time you use it increases over time. I'll do this deal next year when mine expires

Taking a huge risk your code won't work.
Better off waiting for an Eneba deal $7-8 for 50 days, they post them on here almost weekly.

I thought adding Ultimate to an existing Live sub converted all the remaining time to Ult without shortening it, or has that changed?

I know that the 3 month cards adds 50 days in stead of 2 months, so my guess would be the 1 year cards adds 200 days instead of 8 months.

EDIT: 12 months only convert to 4 months.
