Please note that these companies have stopped saying "WiFi" and instead use terms like "Direct Connect" which means it directly connects to their servers using WiFi. I like the hardware but I personally avoid anything WiFi since it's just more devices with access to my home's internal network. Several reviews mention connectivity issues as well. Matter protocol is the local-first standard supported by Amazon, Apple, Google etc. and is the way to go.

Based on my cursory understanding of GE Cync. Please let me know if I got it wrong!

'WiFi' is a certification. If this company doesn't use that term it's either because they didn't want to pay for certification or it's just not compliant. Or it uses a different technology, like ZigBee or Bluetooth.

'Direct Connect' means the two devices can directly communicate with each other, without a hub or router (e.g Bluetooth or Ad Hoc WLAN).

I've already bought into the Cync ecosystem. I'm 13 bulbs, 9 downlights and 10 hexagons in so far. So this sounds like a great deal. The app is excellent and I've had almost no issues at all. Their support has also been good, even received great responses on their subreddit.

Wish my experience was similar. None of my Cync stuff ever wants to connect to Alexa which is infuriating. For whatever reason, Cync is the only one that my system can never find. Kasa, Lenovo, Hue, Eufy, Go sund, etc all work great. Not sure what the issue is with GE products.
