Anybody have an experience using this to cut metal?
It's not really meant to be a chopsaw. You can put a blade on it to cut metal, but it will wear the saw out prematurely.

Heard it is a great brand. Any feedback from a current owner?
A great durable and well within acceptable precision. It is very light and has a handle to make it portable. I don't need a rolling saw stand to take it with me. Have this one for years and even though I have much bigger Bosch glide saw, I still use this one for quick jobs.

I've had mine for 2 years now and have cut hundreds of trim wood with it. First thing I did was put a Diablo ultra-fine tooth saw blade on it (good for cutting delicate trim pieces). It's very precise and super easy to move around. The 12" Ridgid miter saw we have at work for instance takes up a ton of space, weighs almost 2x as this Hitachi so I feel like I need to see the chiropractor every time I lift that Ridgid, and the Ridgid can't even make perfect 45-degree cuts. Every time I use that Ridgid to make stuff, my project comes out all whacked up because the 45-degree angle is slightly off, and I have to spend a ton of time sanding the wood to make it work.

I've bought this saw twice. My first was branded Hitachi, and it was reliable until I gave it to a friend. I rebought this exact model a month ago from Amazon warehouse. Mine arrived a little abused. I took the time to unbolt and realign everything with 90 degree assembly blocks. Now it's absolutely dead-on. Ran it all day for a few days, put it through several hundred cuts, and it's still dead on. I removed the plastic handle used for changing the miter angle, and bolted that in place since I'm using it as a dedicated 90 degree cross cut saw for crate building. I don't expect anything shy of dropping it is going to budge the alignment.

A few observations:

It's quite light for a 10". As miter saws go, it's medium-loud. There's no soft start, but it's quite stable and doesn't jump resting on an assembly table. Dust collection is pathetic. Even with a dedicated vac, it only catches about 10%. I improvised some 'cheeks' on either side of the blade housing, and that got dust collection up to about 60%, but IMO, the only way to run this thing is outside or with the doors wide open. I don't know why the round dust port narrows to a slit behind the blade, but as far as I can tell, that just allows it to clog itself with wood shreds while most of the fine dust sprays out beneath the port to either side as the blade enters the cut.

For the value, and for power and accuracy of cuts, for the portability, this thing is 5 stars. Taking into account dust collection, since that's important for an enclosed shop, I'd give it 3 stars. On a budget, if you can live with the dust going everywhere, I don't think you can get a more reliable saw. You're going to have to spend 4x as much (or more) for very good dust collection on a miter saw.

I knew all this when I purchased mine. I paid about $125, and I'm very happy with it. No regrets that I didn't wait, and if I upgrade later, I'll keep this one for mobile work.

Footnote for those wondering about using it for metal cutting - it spins a little too fast for optimal metal-cutting, and again, chip collection will be abysmal.

can this be used to cut hardwood floor planks and baseboard trim?

Or is it only to make short cuts?

(Thinking about learning floor DYI install if tools are not too expensive)

Gas used to be less than a dollar a gallon too.
Which is irrelevant to my comment.

This isn't a deal. It's a $95 miter at best. For the same price, you could get a Chicago Electric 10" Sliding Miter Saw at Harbor Freight. [harborfreight.com]

Both cheap miter saws, but at least you would be getting more for your money. You can get decent Metabo miter saws, but this one isn't it.

I bought a similar model years ago when it was Hitachi for $99. Solid saw, no problems with lots of use. Still going strong with the original blade but the dust collection sucks.

Planks are vinyl. I'm not sure if this would be good for that. I cut plenty of hardwood tounge and groove flooring with this with no problem.

Rock solid. I believe I have an upgraded version of this. It's 3 years old now and has been the backbone of multiple renovation projects with the stock blade and no modifications. It just works with a precise cut every time.

My dad has one too as well as a Metabo hammer drill. Same experience. Used to be "Hitachi Power Tools" I believe (hence the HPT they sometimes use in their label)

I meant real hardwood boards.
How would you cut along a long board with this? Seems like the board would have nowhere to go as the saw's hinge would be in the way, no?

I have this exact miter saw from earlier this year, paid close to $120, but no regrets. I have used it mainly for trimming ~15 window blinds (fuax wood, about 2x6 inch cross section) and the cuts are clean and sharp. I wish it had a laser / led guiding light... which would have made it easier for precision cuts.
