I don't think Costco people would tenderize steaks mechanically (simply add more labor cost). They usually cut their steaks fresh in bulk from vacuum-sealed whole pieces (usually gone within 1-2 days) while retail stores keep their steaks out on ice for much longer. Therefore Costco steaks appear to be tender and wet. As steak dries and protein/fat starts to degrade, the beefy flavor becomes more pronounced, like aging. I feel you probably will like ribeye cap a lot.

Fact check: I was wrong. They do tenderize most single-cut steaks with blades.

From what I recall, they do mechanically tenderize most of their steaks, unlikely for this though. I believe you can see it on the label as "Blade Tenderized".

Actually, the richest people are most often the cheapest.

I purchased this before and will likely purchase it again, my advice if you've never eaten A5 before.

A5 isn't a steak, it's a food experience that typically is enjoyed only in small quantities (3-6oz a person). Don't buy this because you want a steak dinner. The best description I tell my friends is that it is meat butter.
If you haven't already explored more expensive steaks, you won't enjoy this. If you've already gone down the path of Choice -> Prime -> American Wagyu -> A4 -> A5, you will enjoy this experience.
Another analogy to this is sushi grade tuna. Many people love tuna, but don't like toro. Even if you like toro, have you ever been to a place that serves true chutoro and otoro? My wife loves toro, but hates otoro. This is the otoro of steaks.

Great for those who like it! Otherwise, just wait for the ribeye single steak sale costco does every now and then at @100/lb. Then you'll know whether it's worth 900. Or.....just go to a restaurant that cooks it well. But be prepared to spend 300+... I'd rather wait for the costco sale

My thoughts are that people who can afford this aren't likely to hang out on slickdeals.
I take offense to this as I bought this before and still have half of it in my freezer and I love slick deals.... 😄

That said I would trade what's in my freezer it for the same weight in Prime ribeye. Wagyu is not my cup of tea.

I wish someone told me this before I bought. My limit is prime american wagyu rib eye.

Almost any piece of meat can be made butter soft through a process called tenderizing. It is typically done with the use of papaya juice or powder. It is what I use for most of the meats I cook. Then you also have sous vide as an alternative for steaks and the like. So for folks on this group who would prefer not to splurge, these are great options.

Where do you people live. Costco by far has the best meats in this area. Just did a Brisket and it was amazing. Blows any supermarket or Sam's and BJs away. Maybe add some seasoning. Lol
We never, EVER mentioned brisket... I did mention however that their tri-tip was pretty good. I would totally try their brisket, and intend to. It's packed much differently as well.

Bought this twice. First time split it with another family and was able to have 3 dinners with 6lb of Wagyu! The second time was with a group of 15 friends and still was not able to finish! The meat melts in your mouth and definitely equivalent to the Kobe beef in Japan! Worth every penny if you have a big gathering! Planning to purchase it a third time but will increase the number of people (20+) so the price does not hit the pocket as hard! Btw, it's just not the tenderness that's worth the price! It's the taste and it can't be duplicated!

You leave it in the fridge for 3-4 days before eating! Cuts like butter!
