I believe this is the Amazon link.

Amazon Basics 16-Gauge Speaker Wire Cable, 100 Feet, Bronze https://a.co/d/gmd3jhk

According to multiple entries in questions and answers, this is copper clad aluminum.

Not surprising given the price point. But it's disappointing that it's not clearly stated in the product description.

Seems like a decent deal as it's currently selling on Amazon for $15. [amazon.com] I'm in for 2; thanks OP.

16 gauge is fine for runs less than 50 feet I believe; anything longer you want 12 gauge. Also I prefer/recommend to use banana plugs [monoprice.com] when connecting the speaker wire. A little trick I do to ensure a good connection is to spray the banana plugs with Deoxit.

Edit

Not sure why my post was edited by the staff for "A3P link". Is linking Deoxit at Amazon forbidden fruit here? Perhaps it's a secret safe word in frugal sex dungeons? Seems a bit overzealous/ridiculous if it wasn't a mistaken auto edit by the forum system IMO...

Edit part deux

Seems like this wire is CCA [reddit.com](Copper Clad Aluminum). There's lots of cons of CCA wire that you can read about here [gearit.com]. Basically CCA is poor quality wire that should be avoided for long runs/lengths but 16 gauge CCA wire should be fine for short distances under 15 feet.

I forgot about CCA shenanigans; canceled my orders. Seems like the reviews at Amazon [amazon.com] confirm CCA as well. Thanks for the heads-up and info; it's appreciated.

Don't buy this. ChatGPT says it is not made from copper but CCA. The description is chemically free from what the metal is. CCA is not bad, you just have to go up one or two gauge sizes for same performance. This make 16 gauge CCA thin.

Found this strange at checkout:

What is "Pointless Price"!?

I did not go through with checkout after discovering it's CCA
It's a cute way to say MSRP.

I use to OEM manufacture wire for car and home audio brands. Let me be clear, NEVER buy CCA. The resistance is so high it negates any perceived value of a thicker wire. We ran tests where most CCA 4 gauge wire underperformed 8 gauge copper. On top of that, aluminum is much more brittle and breaks from bending much easier. That can be extremely dangerous when using it for power wire but also can cause issues in speaker wire. There is no value in doing it if current or resistance due to length is a factor.

If you're an audiophile, you're not buying $5 rolls of budget wire no matter what the quality.

If you're anyone else, it will connect speakers to your stereo just fine. There isn't anything about the quality of this product that will sound bad or hurt your equipment.

If you plan to run wire through walls or floors or outside, it really needs to be sheathed and CL rated whether it's made of CCA or solid gold.

Hi
Looking to wire my new construction home (small 10 X 13) media room. Will this be good enough? Also, looking to wire outside for couple of outdoor patio speakers.
Please recommend.
Thanks

is copper cladded aluminum that bad of a material for speaker wires? does using pure copper cables affect audio quality?

It isn't and it doesn't. Don't use it for long runs or in walls. If you are connecting speakers within 15-20 feet of your receiver this 16 gauge will be just as good as 18 gauge OFC. You will not hear a difference.

Depends on what you are using it for. It has a higher impedance and resistance which means your receiver has to work harder to get the same output. Super short runs, cheap speakers, cheap receiver, then it probably doesn't matter. Spend a decent amount on two of the three, it makes no sense to cheap out on the wire when decent wire isn't that much more expensive.

I would recommend 14gauge OFC.
