Two more days until its been 18 months for me.

I have been surviving on Costco Shop/gift cards and shopping at Costco as a non-member. I've got it down to a science now:

When it's just about your turn to check out, you just directly request the cashier to get a manager with the following reason: "I want to use a Costco gift/shop card as a non-member". This direct request shortens the amount of time they feign about not being able to check you out as a non-member.

I have a printout of this page [costco.com]. Click the second FAQ item, print it & take a highlighter to the 2nd to last sentence if they play dumb.

Are you a Costco employee? Every time I try to check out, someone tries to sell me this. And every time, I try to stop them before they start, but they never take my first couple "no" for an answer. They regurgitate the same thing about how that 2% will add up to the cost of the executive portion of my membership (I don't spend enough for it to pay for the whole membership).

Here's why I won't, and why this annoys me. First, it's a high-pressure blitz when I just want to go home. Leave me alone. Second, and most importantly, Costco uses gift certificates like it's 2003. They do this on purpose though. They make make killer money on membership upgrades because they're counting on people forgetting their gift certificate (not allowed to use it online), people losing their gift certificate and not realizing they can ask for a new one, or people just not caring until it's expired. Load it onto my membership card where it can be applied to my next purchase, and I'd do it. They won't do that though because it would hurt their profits. I am too stubborn to participate in that hustle even if it might benefit me because I'm only out ~$5-$15/yr at most.

I continue to patronize them because I'll occasionally drive the 30 minutes to the brick and mortar store (in-person shopping there is still fun until I get to the checkout), but I mostly get in on bundles of discounted clothes for work each year. The convenience and savings on that alone is what pays for my membership.

tl;dr if you're buying this and not upgrading, expect to be harassed and have someone condescend to your math skills at the checkout lane more times than not

This sounds like you used the instacart service. Costco does not do same-day delivery in-house, they just offer instacart as an optional service for those who may require same day delivery.

Can I buy first and activate the membership 1 month later? My membership will expire one month later, and we have new family members name to buy a new membership.
The fine print says your 1 year membership activates immediately upon purchase.

My wife's membership just expired and I didn't have a household card. Am I eligible or it going to be a pain too get the gift card since we share the same last name and address ( I did have a membership that expired in 2020)
If under your name instead and it's been 18 months shouldn't be an issue.

I recently purchased the Surface PRO bundle from Costco. When ordering, they automatically applied an optional 10% tip during checkout. If you were to checkout too fast, you might not notice and pay an extra $100+ for nothing (jn my case). I was able to set the tip to 0% when completing the order.

The next day when the item shipped, they charged me another $30 to my payment method without explanation. It was only when I contacted customer support I was told it was a non-refundable fee. Come to find out, Costco uses low quality paid drivers to deliver your package, kinda like an Uber just for your local Costco delivery. The $30 fee must have gone to this driver. To top it off, the lady driver wanted to connect to my Wifi to finalize the delivery (confirm it was delivered). What a joke!

Nothing compares to your friendly Amazon delivery driver.

The Executive Membership is actually a complete ripoff because if you are spending enough $$$ on bulk purchases, the price should go lower in the form of a volume discount but Costco still charges you the same amount. They are making tons of money overcharging Executive members by pocketing the volume discount most businesses would give.

I'm almost convinced someone at Groupon is embezzling all of these giftcards because there's no reason anyone should have to complain about not getting their giftcard.

ONLY if you spend enough for the bonus to offset the extra membership fee. And if you don't already spend that much, the psychology of the membership is that you feel like you need to spend more)enough to offset it, just to make the additional cost worth it, especially if you don't realize you can get the extra fee back at the end of the year if you request it.

A family of six who takes multiple vacations a year, purchases a lot of OTC medications, has a house, multiple vehicles, and two large dogs could easily spend $3,000 yearly or an average of $250 a month at Costco, but it's a different story for a single person who uses public transportation, doesn't cook at home often, and lives in an apartment with no pets.

How strict do they calculate the 18 months? My membership expired over 12 months now, if I use a new email account to register, do I qualify this offer?

That's unacceptable. It's been years since I've had a Costco membership because it used to be on the way to my Grandma's house. I've been thinking about trying again, but not for $60. Maybe net $20.

Is this a standard issue with the Groupon deal for others? Who did you complain to?

What it looks like you dont have a costco membership & you used Instacart for delivery. I have never seen tip service to all my online orders & never had to pay for shipping. Exec member from last 5+ yrs.

Shouldnt there be a lawsuit against such companies who promised to pay customers their GC & never paid out. May be a classaction soon..
