Does this work well without the subscription and can you use another app? I'm primarily just looking for decent images in the notifications on your phone and Arlo didn't provide that without subscription or family users

I don't know about the og but I'm using the V3 with an SD card installed and no subscription. The camera is continuously recording to the SD card (records over the oldest portion). You can set notifications for motion and you get notification on your phone with an image. If you click on the image right away it'll take you to the live feed if you wait a little it'll take you to the app with just the still inside and then you can hit playback and play the video from the time of the notification.

There are a few bugs and issues but for the most part it meets my needs without the need for subscription.

Can you set it to record only with motion without a subscription? Would like to use it as an outdoor motion sensor to trigger alexa or smartthings?

I don't even think you need to record to do that. I don't use it but I believe it has Alexa integration where it can do Alexa triggers. In any case you can set it to record "continuous" or "events only" if you have an SD card installed. I would caution that on events only if the event is very brief you may miss it in the recording. Because sometimes I get a motion trigger and the event is a second or two before the event time.

Thanks! yeah i heard about that shortcoming and the 12 second and 5 minute stuff. I guess I'll just have to try it and see how it goes.

The 12 second clips and 1 minute cooling period, if they still plague these cameras, are a deal breaker. So many missed recordings, it's not even worth it if free.

I think my OG is still frame and 2 minute cool down. Also if you look back on the SD card events are marked but you can't start play back on the event.

Not going to buy any more of them for the reasons above.

You don't get any video clips with the OG camera because it is not compatible with Cam Plus Lite.

"OG" is a newer version, not actually the original.

It is not eligible for the free Cam Plus Lite. Otherwise a decent camera.
