I have a smart hub and 4 arlo cameras (two ultra 2 and two essential). I bought them from Costco in 2020. Beside the upfront costs for the cameras and smart hub bundle I didn't have to pay for anything else. I need to recharge the batteries or cameras every 3-6 months depending on the location and traffic. The front cameras need to be recharge every 3-4 months.

I bought a 512GB microsd for the smart hub. It has been 3 years and only 100GB out of 488GB were used.

The 2nd generation cameras DO NOT work the smart hubs right now. They might need to update the firmware and it could take 10+ months. I would like to replace the 1080P essential arlos with the 1440p but not until they patch them to work with my existing smart hub.

Local storage is the way to go. I can check video footage from 3 years ago if needed and no monthly fee Smilie

Only reason I have Arlo's is because years ago at the time of installation they were pretty much the only battery-powered option. The UI absolutely sucks and it's slow to load, that being said it still works enough for what I need it for, which is to have a camera in a high up area with no hardwire access. I have a base station so it records all recordings there so I can go back in the app and watch any video from the past several days and download it if I want to. I have 3 cameras up and I don't pay any subscription fees. If you have hard wire access there are a million other cameras I would choose over these, if you need a battery powered camera with a battery then it's not the worst option. I have extra batteries so when it's about to die I climb up and swap the batteries out and charge the dead one to be ready next time I need to swap. I probably get about 5-10 recordings per day and change the battery every 6-8 weeks
Mine Pro2 gets 20+ records per day, one charging last around 2 months. I use magnetic mounts and take down cameras with ArloCatcher, no ladder needed, no subscription fee, no solar panel needed. Super easy.
