Got this last night .. heck of a deal for a mod'd Tele out of the factory - S1 phase switching, Series/Parallel with 4 way. Gents this is at cost price considering the research and yes the BAJA Tele did most of it but not with modern electronics.

Repped.

A solid deal.

Of note, the Vintera models require removing the neck to adjust the neck relief. Nonetheless, this looks really nice. My finger is hovering over the "buy" button.

You might be able to take the pick guard off and use a flat tool. Or better yet, notch out the pick guard slightly so you don't have to take it off after that first time

Bahhh....I love everything about it except the Pau Ferro (for the looks alone, I am nowhere near good enough for the feel to matter). Would be great if a Player Series with a maple fretboard hit this price.

Solid deal though, always love to see Fender (esp. Tele) deals!

FWIW, I'm with you on the aesthetics of maple versus the dark (rosewood, pau ferro, ebony, bubinga, laurel) fretboards. But having played both as an intermediate player, the dark 'board feels so much better to my fingers. It took me a while to notice. I have a totally counterfeit Strat with a dark fretboard at my office. I noticed that I found it much easier to play when I'd practice with it. Then I hit upon why.

Fender's maple 'boards are glossy, so my fingertips stick just a bit, especially when moving a chord from one place to another quickly. The maple improves and becomes less grabby as it's played-in, but the dark 'boards never grab in the first place. You don't have to oil the glossy maple, which is a benefit, but I've done a 180 and now prefer the dark fretboards.I will say that the roasted maple necks with a matching maple fretboard are not grabby at all, in my experience. It's that gloss that's the problem.

Clearly, not everyone's experience is the same as mine. Eric Johnson plays on a maple fretboard, even. But don't go just on aesthetics; actually check out the alternative and see what you think.

Don't resist. I surrendered right away. Ordered one right after I saw the first post.

Is this a significant step up from the Player Tele? I bought one of those for a similar price last year and am wondering if I should upgrade Big Grin

Yes. It's at the high end of the MIM models.
