For a new pc build, worth saving some cash and go 5800x3d or jump straight to 7800x3d for 4k gaming? Pairing this with a 4080

If you're only playing cod, there's no real difference between 5800x3d vs 7800x3d. If you play any other game, I'd go with the 7800x3d

What? There is nothing wrong with a 5800x3d platform even if used for the next 5 years. The real question is if s/he wants to spend the finances to update a whole build to AM5 or skip and wait until AM6.

There's nothing wrong with either one. @Teecee's question was for a new build playing at 4k. At 4k, games become gpu limited, so any ryzen 5/i5 will pretty much do.

I have a 5800x3d paired with a 4090FE. No point for me to upgrade to a 7800x3d cause I just play cod and sometimes bg3 lol

imo, if you're building a system from scratch get the 7800X3D because you're good for another few years for AM5 (i.e. can upgrade the CPU down the road if you want... AM6/successor isn't due until after 2026). assuming the microcenter deal is still active:

this would be the best buy.

if you're on an AM4 system and on a budget, get the 5800X3D (assuming you're not already coming off a 5000 series).

Do you even need 4090 for cod?! Especially if competitive settings are not max/ultra anyway

With cod having a really low server tick rate, nope, you don't need a 4090. I just happen to get it cause it was at msrp. Changing to competitive graphics settings actually puts more of a load on the cpu since it can't keep up with the gpu.

Get the AM5. If the past is any indicator, AMD keeps their platforms around for awhile. AM4 was released in early 2017 and was compatible with Zen, Zen+, Zen 2 and Zen 3 processors. If you get an AM5 now, you're going to get years of CPU compatibility out of it.
