Ok several points. I have both.

- I have beat the tar out of this chainsaw, and overall, it's -great-. Only 'issue' is it will auto-stop if it thinks it's stuck, but I keep using it for jobs that are probably too big for it, because it's so much more convenient.

- For your application, you probably want the hedge trimmer. The head articulates which will help with such a tall hedge. Note that the hedge trimmer is not light. I do a few big hedges with it (8' tall, 15' across) and when I'm done it reminds me of why I lift. Might want to do a piece at a time.

- The sides of the hedge trimmer blades are sharp. Actually will go through you clothes and cut you sharp. It comes in a sleeve for a reason; you were warned! However that means on branches to big to cut, you can lay the side of the blade on them and saw through stuff. It's no chainsaw, but I'll do branches as big as 2" that way, and that means not needing to get another tool.

- Being electric, these guys are grab and go. No gas, typically no oil. Once you get rid of the 'overhead', a quick job is 5 mins. A lot of things get done that previously would have been too much time.

- Ok in the 'at your own risk' dept. The extension from the hedge trimmer is the same as the saw. So you -can- add it. However it's clearly at a weight limit and I've only done that a couple times to reach something wayyy up there. It really only works straight up .. they're not strong enough to hold the saw sideways. And this also is not a task for lightweights.

- It's decently sturdy. Don't worry about the saw falling on your head, worry about the branches. Wear a hat! The sawdust falls on YOU.

- My hedge trimmer started making funny sounds about 4 months in. Something loose in the motor sounds like. Been working for years since, Confused but that is a disappointment.

- The saw's blade and tension system aren't as good as an actual Stihl saw. But it seems like it loosens up less frequently so you don't have to redo it as much.

Don't know about this deal, but ++++ for the saw.
I have this pole saw and it's a beast. Extremely well built and the pole extension is great for getting limbs without a ladder. I've helped many neighbors with this. Bought mine in June '22 for $139 (tool only). I use the 5ah battery and it goes for days.

FYI....eBay link is for certified refurb in "like new" condition.

Quote from Tec :
- Only straight up because I'm going for max height. The saw is slightly canted so that it rests on the branch. Normally you're working at an angle.

[Note: if you're haven't done a lot of tree trimming, tree branches are like car mirrors. The object up there is larger than it appears! So look at the branch and make sure, even if where you're cutting isn't overhead, that the rest of that branch isn't.]

For the things you cut with a hedge trimmer, this isn't really an issue. And I had to cut back a way out of control 30' hedge (used both). Hedges are dense enough that the falling-on-you thing isn't really an issue.

- For saw maintenance, it's still a chain saw. It takes oil. Blades need to be sharpened occasionally. The chain needs tensioned from time to time. If this is your first saw, I strongly recommend spending a little time with someone to show you saw maintenance. Ask a friend or a local shop that sharpens chains.

Two more tidbits:

- The hedge trimmer is never 'short'. It's always at the end of a pole. That's been fine and that's how I use it, but for trimming that's not some huge hedge, the handheld trimmer would be more convenient.

- The hedge trimmer head articulates both ways, so you can tilt it 'up' 30 degrees and use it like a thresher to clearcut weeds and raspberries, small trees, etc. That's actually really handy. Depends on how wild your property is. Smilie

Thanks. Last thing, on your out of control hedge. You said you needed the pole saw for some of that. Was the hedge trimmer not enough for some parts (the thicker branches) of the hedge? I just bought the hedge trimmer only from Fasteners. (wasn't a great deal like this $140 for the tool only)

Oh that was truly out of control. There were 'branches' in 6" across! LMAO

Does it come with a poke extension?
Let me clear up the confusion. Yes it comes with a roughly 3' pole extension to increase the tool length to about 10'. Without the extension installed, the tool from saw tip to battery is 7'.

The overall reach depends on how tall you are with your arms extended. Dewalt says 15' but that all depends on who is holding it.

I bought this pole saw over the summer and used it daily pruning Bradford pear trees. The only negative thing I can say about is it is when you use the extension it is flimsy so it can break. The rivets came out of mine but I contacted Dewalt and had a replacement within a week. I try not to use the extension pole because I am afraid it will happen again.

Got this from eBay this summer for $138 tool only. This with the battery for $152 is a great deal.

My cordless SawsAll does not cut as nicely as I had hoped, so I am going with this pole saw
It will be nice to not deal with gas or long extension cords, but how long will 4Ah battery last?

The welcome coupon worked for me, but it brought it under the $150 threshold for free shipping, so it added $10 shipping charge...

This is a great pole saw. I have had it for 2-3 years now and it has never failed. It runs forever even with a 5Ah battery. Couple of things you do want to note though. It does leak oil so before you store it, ensure to fully drain the little tank. And when you add the middle extension rod for full extension, it does get top heavy and you have to balance it carefully. However, the build does allow you to rest the head of the saw on the branch when you are cutting it. But overall, two thumbs up for sure.

Obviously that depends on what you're cutting.

I use mine with a 5Ah. The last time I used it I cut down 10 or 12 fairly big branches (mostly over 3 inch diameter), then cut those branches into multiple 2-foot sections. Then I put that battery in my recip saw to trim off the smaller branches from those big pieces. It ran out just as I was finishing those.
