The 3 way on/off "kit" is really not a kit but a 2 pack, and each of the switches in the 2 pack can be used to smarten up two separate 3 way circuits - only one smart switch is required in a 3 way on/off setup. Interestingly, the 3 way on/off switch can also be used in a 4 way switch setup (3 or more switches controlling a light/lights). The on/off 2 pack is often priced lower than the single 3 way on/off, so if you need to smarten up more than one 3 way setup, it can be a better deal per unit to get the 2 pack rather than the single switch. The smart 3 way on/off gets installed in the box where the power comes in (line in), and the other existing "dumb" 3 way switch can be left in place.
Lots of bolding in my post - that's for distinguishing the 3 way dimmers from the 3 way on/offs - i'm not yelling

My question is this - can I swap the HS210 switches with this KS230 kit and gain dimming capability, or would something prevent me from doing so? The lights being controlled are dimmable.

I'm not saying that Matter is perfect but it's a step in the right direction for a platform agnostic smart home. If TP-Link made a commitment to upgrade all existing products to Matter via firmware update I'd agree with you. Otherwise all of the cloud dependent integrations will be mothballed by either controller and/or client manufacturers in due time.
A good example is MyQ and their smart garage openers; used to support HomeKit and Google Home, now support neither. If it supported Matter this wouldn't have occurred.

Matter is probably a year away from being stable enough and still carries a premium price for the buggy implementation that I would recommend holding off unless you absolutely need the Apple Homekit integration because most are Google Assistant and Alexa supported already (I personally think their automations are the easiest to use, such as using "during night/day time" so I don't have to keep changing all my night time automations every month as the year goes on until we reach the bullshit that is daylights savings day)

I have 3 switches controlling lights that I want to be smart dimmable... From what I've seen on TP-Link forums and the product page even buying 2x of this for a second satelite kit won't work. Need the V1 kit only... Wondering if you might have a recommendation switches to look at for my setup?
