Coming from a stainless steel series 3, should I order this one or an aluminum series 9 GPS only? Difference in price is about $100 more for the stainless steel series 8. Are the upgrades of series 9 worth it over series 8? Decisions, decisions.

I definitely do think stainless steel is worth a premium over aluminum.

I also think that cellular is worth paying for, because you'll have it if you ever need it. You don't even have to turn it on, but should you want to, you'll have the ability to do so. For me, I have the service for runs. If something happens, I like the peace of mind of knowing my watch is a phone even if I'm miles from home.

I don't think there are a ton of features worth having in S9 versus S8. The processor is better, yes. But as you'll read in plenty of places, the processor on the S7, S8, Ultra 1 is more than fast enough, even years after release.

The one thing I'd encourage you to consider, though, is that it's quite a pain to return an Apple Watch to Amazon - at least in my experience. I had to do it once, and they held my money hostage a long time. So if you decide you want a deal from Amazon, make sure you want it.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd go for the S8 stainless. I have an Ultra but bought an S7 stainless from Walmart for $329 earlier in the year. It's pretty awesome, and that's only an S7.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! This will be a Christmas present for my wife. She currently has a stainless steel series 3. I have a stainless steel series 7 that I also got earlier this year and love it.

I am aware of Amazon's return process of Apple products. I returned an M1 Pro MacBook and it was a pain to get the money back.

I went ahead and ordered the stainless steel series 8. Thanks again for helping me make up my mind!

Definitely get stainless steel. It's so much more sturdy and premium looking..

I tried to get a s7 SS a few weeks ago for 330 and the box Amazon delivered was an empty Apple Watch box. It was such a hassle. The box even had two labels, one saying there was an error with the weight (because the damn contents were missing). They had me file a police report but kept denying that it was filed correctly when it had everything they asked for. I had to keep calling until I got someone willing to help. They have to call the police department directly to verify it. The whole thing was crazy and I'm never buying a small, high value, easily stolen thing like this online ever again.

1 month ago. Ordered a 45mm and a 41mm but they sent me the wrong (aluminum) one for the 41mm. I ordered within 4h of the deal posting

You offered a very detailed response, but I would add that the Series 9 introduces a finger-tap for basic app functions. That's a big feature depending on how someone uses their watch.
