I guess they keep trying diff variants of the same-ish deals over and over. H&R in general goes for $18-$25 on deals and last several years it has dropped to $20 with a $5 gift card or something netting it for $15.

This is a silly "deal" for a net $20 cost assuming GC=Cash. I just bought from Amazon for $25 last week and had some digital credits bringing it down to under $20 and be done with deal hunting for a better deal which this isnt one...

Keep the stupid gift cards and just sell the software for $20 by itself and I am in.

Funny thing about all tax software. Crap in = Crap out.

I have an adoption on my taxes this year and I have no idea what I am doing. H&R or turbo tax? I switched over to H&R the last few years but they have been simple returns so far...

I have used both many times. I think TT is better for people new to doing their own taxes with software. They both do the exact same thing in the end.

Over the past several years the price for Federal+State has ben around 20 dollars. So pulled the plug with HD gift card. IMO, the net price 18 dollars+tax is worth it. One thing to note is, as most of us will be getting refund and as the interest rates are hovering around 5% it is better to file early and get the refund rather than waiting to save 3 dollars till April. Consider the interest rate on the refund.

Does anyone have experience with this software compared to Turbotax?

Just use Cash App taxes. It's completely free and supports a lot of forms including 1099. I used it last year and it worked great. I was previously using Turbotax Home and Business for years.

H&R Block 2023 Premium PC/MAC version is $37.50 on Amazon. Plus use your No-Rush Rewards that expire in December. $29 out the door for me I'm self employed. No need to deal with a gift card.
You don't need Premium for self-employment income.

I have mortgage from this year onwards. Deluxe or Premium?
Deluxe does mortgages and even rental income.

I have done that for a few years when one could get the H&R and TurboTax for free. I switched to it when I found it to be more or less the same in the way it works as Turbotax. I think one time I got even more return with H&R than TurboTax perhaps due to a delayed update.

Correction (I thought it was obvious):
Put in the same information into H&R Block Deluxe - Get less refund as opposed to TurboTax Deluxe. My personal experience.
Then you're doing something wrong. When I've tried both I've gotten the exact same result.

Then it shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes to figure out the discrepancy.

Junk gift cards that at best have 80% face value. Plus you are paying tax on the whole value. Pass.
Not true. You only pay tax on $18.00 on the Deluxe plus state which comes to $38.00 plus about $1.50 tax. The gift card is not taxed at least in NY. I just bought it. The Home Depot cards are almost never discounted so that card is a good deal

Uh...for a lot of us the higher interest rates mean a smaller refund and likely owe especially if you stashed tons of cash in a high yield savings account.
