For what it's worth, I buy my own oil (full synthetic) and filter when I see the oil deals here on Slickdeals. A good Mobil 1 filter at Walmart, or similar deal on eBay and you can make a very economical oil change. I have a local shop that will change my oil for $15 if I provide the oil and filter, no wait or appointment , just pull in and they do it. It would be worth asking around, or even asking a non-franchised quick change place if they will do it if you provide the oil and filter.

...And yet people balk at the price when we do the same for $40 at my shop (with a WIX filter!). Why? Because they all instantly compare prices to the Wal-Mart s-, I mean, pit crew price of $25 for an oil that is absolutely bottom-tier and a sad excuse they call a filter.

Moral of the story? At least try to call a few local shops to see if you can get a better price on your next oil change. Most are probably high, but there are still a few righteous shops out there hanging on for dear life watching while people grossly overpay for the most simple services elsewhere.

Slightly off topic, but IMO with labor prices the way they are now I think it's absolutely still worth changing your own oil if you are able to. I can change the oil in either of my cars with full synthetic (Supertech or Kirkland usually) and an OEM filter for under $25. Takes about 15 minutes if I'm working slowly. Ramps and a catch can will set you back about $60, then you're set for life.

Not an option for everyone to be sure, but it's maintenance almost anyone can handle if they have a place to work and the desire to save some money.

Eeek! DIY if you are able. A DIY change costs me about $25-30 including an OEM filter.

I use the $25 coupon and my oil change was still $85. Lol
I did it myself last week and cost me $30. That's 6q of synthetic and oil filter.

I agree with you. That's why I do it myself for about $100 investment of one time then 5 quarts of any good synthetic and the mid-grade or better purolator filter. And you're looking at 35 bucks max
My average price on a 2013 Mazda is $27 on a 2006 Honda pilot 26 dollars. yes I know it takes about 30 minutes and people just don't have to time

$40 is actually a good price if you are using good oil. Most folks don't care if they lease a car but if you financed it you need to take better care of your car

I do this too because the time spent to drive to and wait at the shop ends up being much longer than the time I do it myself. I also double it as family time with my 5 yo son who enjoys being around "helping"

Not sure if prices vary by city/states but in Riverside CA this is what I'm usually paying.
$75 for my 2021 JL Jeep - Labor/oil and filter.
$40 for my 2018 SRT Jeep - I bring my own oil and filter so just labor.
$60 for my 2022 Civic - Labor/oil and filter.

I like their service. Never had an issue. Wake up early and you'll be out of there in 30 mins.

*Edit* Sorry I forgot to mention I always use a $15 dollar coupon I receive via email so those are the prices with the $15 coupon activated.

One of the simplest TIY projects to learn with a lifetime of benefits.

If you spend 50 to 80K on a new vehicle, do you really want to a minimum wage teen to be responsible for this task?

I just did my own oil for the first time. Bought Costco brand synthetic oil when it was on sale and bought Mobil 1 filter from amazon. I def felt the difference, the car is running alot smoother.

Even with the discount, this place remains massively overpriced.

Also, this word "instant" . . . I don't think they understand the meaning.

This basically brings their price down to normal cost for an oil change. Might be really good if you're in a pinch and need an oil change on the quick. This place never takes more than 20 minutes to change your oil.
