Moral of the story? At least try to call a few local shops to see if you can get a better price on your next oil change. Most are probably high, but there are still a few righteous shops out there hanging on for dear life watching while people grossly overpay for the most simple services elsewhere.
Not an option for everyone to be sure, but it's maintenance almost anyone can handle if they have a place to work and the desire to save some money.

They use a tiny hose and insert it into the oil fill port all the way down to the oil pan to suck the old oil out.
I didn't like how they suck the oil out. Feels like you can't completely get a good drain. They were able to suck out 4L out of my car but normally I fill 4.2L of new oil. So the sucking device left about .2L in the engine.
The experience here is phenomenal if you go at the right times. Zero waiting, no magical problems that they want to fix (since they aren't a shop there isn't much incentive to try to "find business" other than the few other barebones preventative maintenance services they offer.
It's really failproof. I confirm that the computer is telling them the right amount of oil, their guns dispense the exact amount, they show you the dipstick before you leave to verify the level. You are in the car watching the entire time.
If you aren't tight on money, it's a great luxury IMO. If money is tight, just do it yourself. But the one thing I would never do again is go anywhere else like a dealer or a shop and jump through the hoops and wait forever for a basic task you can be done with in 10 minutes.
The oil alone for our Audi TDI is like $35-$60/5 quarts if we buy it ourselves. Our Subaru takes the Kirkland Signature stuff which is like $16/5 quarts on sale.

And why, Mr. Purolator, is not only your filter superior, but are you certain you are getting what they are claiming?
I had my truck done the last time they had this deal, it was still over $130, and that was after declining a lot of high-pressure upsales based on a service schedule not based on the manufacture.
Then after I left I noticed they left oil all over the bottom of my truck, no care at all was given for a clean job, or cleaning afterwards, really a "spill and fill" type job. I complained, and got nothing but they'd talk to the tech. I ended up using a bunch of rags and brake clean to clean up the mess as it was dripping onto my driveway.
Never again... and my wife now understands why I usually DIY it.
Would definitely avoid if you have a European car. And oddly enough, I use Valvoline and LiquidMoly oil.

Oil changes are the only thing I don't do myself.
