Can this be used for cold plunge?
You'd need a ton of ice unless you're in a cold area.
If you can find a used chest freezer on FB or Craigslist you can convert it for a relatively low cost and it'll be a pretty great year-round setup for possibly the same amount

Anyone care to comment about how this is compared to the Costco one listed today for $499?

That one is a 6-8 person. This is a smaller unit. Larger=More water=larger electric bill to heat said water.

Go to tractor supply and pick up a 100g Rubbermaid trough for $97. Only takes a few bags of ice to make a quick easy plunge.

Bought one yesterday and set it up today. I put 2x 8x4ft pink insulated board underneath to insulate it from the bottom. It's currently heating up water and will be ready in the morning.

I am searching for some chemicals right now to pickup in the morning. Any tips are appreciated.
I use chlorine tablets. I tried using bromine but it doesn't seem to last long and it seems harder to manage. I also don't use the dispenser from the inlet. I use a small floating dispenser and it works just fine. Those are about $5 on Amazon.

The SaluSpa Madrid at Walmart last year (12/6) was $168 - good unit. Stays hot. We didn't use it much last year after a while and sold it. Many sell used for this price so still a good deal.
I picked up a Madrid on clearance last month for $117. It's basically identical to this but also has wifi so you can turn it on from work if you want to use it when you get home. It's awesome, but be prepared to spend more on chemicals, test strips, replacement filters, etc. Or in my case, a projector and projector screen.

Anybody care to comment on your electric bill after purchasing? Just wondering if it's worth the $3-$5 a day I've heard.
We've had ours running for about a week now. Average daily draw is about 25kWh, to hold its temp at 99F. Ambient temp here this week has been around 30-40F.

So that's 750kWh per month, or around $190 at the $0.25/kWh we pay here. I imagine it will be a lot less in the warmer months, but regardless, I'm going to go to HD today and pick up some NGX foam board to make a better cover from.

Consider a chlorine generator for hot tub. Cuts way back on use of chemicals, very easy to maintain. We've used it for years and love it. No more burning eyes and brittle hair.

I have had one for about 3 years and I use a chemical called "leisure time spa 56". For the first batch I will put in half a spoonful (supplied). After that I will usually do about a quarter full after using it. Also I bought "7 way chemical pool test strips" to see how the chemicals look.
There are also potential ph increase or decrease powders you may need depending on your tests, but the spa 56 by itself is really good. I will just run the bubbles for 30 seconds and pour in the granules to mix them well. It is pretty easy. I also did the pink insulation board. Just used it last night and thought how nice it is to have this thing.

We got one last year on clearance and loved it. Was so excited to unpack it this year but was disappointed to see it was *covered* in mold; there must have been some water somewhere after draining drying packing. It was unsalvageable. Debating getting another, and then ordering if the $50 insurance would cover accidental damage like that. Paying 20% insurance makes it much less of a deal but ensures a three year hot tub?

I think you meant $499, right? I don't see a $400 one on the Costco site:

This is exactly what I got! Amazon overnight delivery, should be behind the door right now.$45/5lbs is not bad at all. I also got some test strips and will probably get some better kit later. So you have any that you would recommend?
