I'm on the fence between this, g14, and 14" legion slim 5. Decisions decisions.

Not a bad deal, but the 4070 isn't a huge jump over the 4060. The 4080 is really the laptop GPU to look for this gen imo
This is incorrect

He is and he isn't. A 4070 is only about 20% faster than a 4060, while the 4080 is about a 50-60% uplift on a 4070.

That said, obviously a 4070 should be well within consideration if it is 20% faster and only, say, 10% more expensive.

Yeah, he wasn't really incorrect at all. It's not a reason to pass on this deal, since the 4070 is still a good card (so are the 4060 and 4050) and you're not going to find a 4080 for anywhere close to this price. So, it depends on how much you want to spend. I think his point was more that there is a much bigger gain going from the 4070 to 4080 than a 4060 to 4070 or 4050 to 4060, as you mentioned. Or put another way, the 4080 offers a tier of performance that wasn't available in the previous gen, whereas the 4070 offers similar performance to last gen's top tier.

4070 mobile is similar or in some cases worse than last gen's 3070/3070 Ti mobile. Unless you go to 4080, this gen got no real performance upgrade other than software fake frame insertion to simulate performance improvement for single player games.

How about we stick to this 4070. It is more powerful than 3070/3070ti mobile across most measurements.

Generally, the ones that might not be as good as a 3070 from last Gen are in creator minded builds, with a bigger focus on the CPU, and a still powerful but cool and quiet 4070. There were 3070ti's from last Gen that were the same, power limited and intended for creative projects.

Compare apples to apples.

The tuff has a 1080 fhd screen when this has a 2k resolution but then there's AMD versus Intel. I'll take the better screen IMO

I'm in the same boat, between this and a legion slim 5 with 4060 for 850. I ordered the legion slim but can return it. Ugh so many choices.

This laptop or https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/fp/895939 (I got the Lenovo open box for 850).

I plan on keeping it in a desk so portability doesn't matter. This one has a better screen and gpu, but worth the extra 200?

Yes, worth it for the superior gaming experience. Plus you getting a brand new machine and not an open box.

Get this one for the display. The Tuf has a faster processor and bigger drive and it's cheaper.

Matters if it's for gaming... TUF isn't Asus's gaming line, so the GPU is gimped and the screen is basic. THIS deal is a gaming laptop and definitely has a better screen and probably a higher wattage GPU
