Yep agreed - the range is more important than the speed - not much speed needed for clicking lights on and off. 2.4 Ghz is the service band IMO. 5 Ghz is for the human facing devices where download speed for streaming etc. is important.

No issues here - Kasa and Tapo devices co-existing peacefully. Your router and WAP should be separate though - "all in one" devices (firewall/router/switch/AP) are rarely optimized or well located for good coverage. Most ISPs will bring in your WAN connection at the easiest spot for them to get it installed, with little concern for coverage. I suppose mesh systems may ameliorate that a bit, but ideally one or more WAPs with wired connections are the best bet for good coverage IMO.

What exactly doesn't work for you if the internet goes down? The devices remain powered on if they are already on. And for Kasa smart plugs any timers is saved in the smart plug's memory itself so they will run scheduled on/off timers even if the internet is down, Also if your phone is connected via wifi to the same router as the Kasa smart plugs you can still access them and manually power them on or off using the app even if the internet is down. It may take awhile to load but eventually will work.

The only thing you can't do if the internet is down is remotely access the smart plugs if you are away from home.

I don't know if this is the case. I believe they have a bluetooth fallback so they can still be controlled locally even if the internet (of Wifi) is down.

I can't remember, but it is possible that the app requires talking to them across the cloud, but I don't think this is the case.

If it *is* the case then I know that you can control them through other means (like scripts or mayb homekit, etc) to talk directly over the local network.

I don't have a lot of smart plugs...only a few of these and one Cync GE. These are far superior to the GE trash.

Love these things. I got 4 that I use. One for my Xmas lights "Hey google, hohoho." "Hey google, honomo." Two for my basement lights, and one for my water heater on a timer for my circulator pump. "Hey google, hot water please" and on demand hot water
