I guess it's relative, but the amount of time and effort to do this sounds way too much. Hauling the washer back, disassembling, and then you have the headache of needing to dispose of all the leftover material. Throw in some money for metal stands/legs (because not all of us have these just laying around), how much are you actually saving once you consider everything? Also aesthetically, I'm sure the Solo Stove looks better than what 90% of people will build.

It's really not that big a deal. I bought one at this price last summer when it went on sale, I can get through 4- 5 fires without having to clean out as the wood burns to fine ash which one person can pickup and dump out. I finish up with a shop vac and it's a piece of cake.

I'd pull the trigger if you're thinking about it, heck it's Costco return it if you don't like it after you buy.

Get a handle and carry it to a place, such as a garden, a field, or a lawn, and flip it upside down. Done. I usually collect the ash as fertilizer. As long as you don't burn plastics, it's safe to use

Anyone know of a hack for the ash pan? The Yukon 2.0 is currently $460 on the solo website.so IMHO not worth the price difference, especially if I can find a substitute or learn from others how they empty the ashes in this size stove. My SO really wants a Yukon so I am thinking Christmas present. Would welcome some input from Yukon/Solo owners. TIA

I'm on the fence on this one also. Actually saw it's still the same price from Black Friday/ Cyber Monday. The newer models have better features but I doubt they'll come down significantly in price. The base that's included is an awesome but it'll be a PITA to clean the ashes without the removable tray.

I'm a fan of Solo Stove, and those videos of the dancing flames and low smoke are pretty accurate. But for those not familiar, the Yukon is very large, and will go through wood like nobody's business if you keep it going like it needs to for those to happen. I get much more use out of the Bonfire. Wish they made it a little bigger, or offered a size in between.

LOL SO is significant other. At least it used to be for my generation (don't ask - I have no idea which one I belong to these days).

I went ahead and ordered this. I saw the handle on the Solo website, which I think will help a lot. At this size, I doubt we will be moving it that often but it will help with cleaning out the ashes.

I have friends with both the Bonfire and the Yukon and I prefer the Bonfire. The Yukon really is quite large but as a gift I know the preference is for the Yukon. I placed the order and know this can be returned if necessary so nothing to lose.

Thanks for the input. I did check out the handle on the Solo website - not as overpriced as most of the other accessories so I am going to jump on this deal and return if it turns out to be a dealbreaker for my SO.

I bought a few for Christmas as well. I grabbed this handle so my sons can carry to the garden and empty it (like someone else suggested). I also bought a soft bristle brush so they can get all the ash off the stainless without scratching it. You need to keep the holes open so the fire can pull in oxygen . Great you-tube videos on cleaning it. Here's the link to the handle. Solo sells them also but a little more expensive

I just scoop out what I can with a small shovel and turn the leaf blower loose on whatever is left.

For cleaning, invest in an ash vacuum.

Vacuum everything you can from the surface.

tilt solo on its side, off of base.

Roll back and forth while vacuuming until empty.

Place back on stand.

Take ash vac bucket to woods and dump in ash pile.

The easiest method I've found and you don't need to be physically able to pick it up. The fires are WAY better when this thing is cleaned after every use.

I have a Yukon 1.0 and absolutely love it. If u r on a budget & on the fence thinking about buying this, just do it. Great deal. Would I love a 2.0 with removable ash pan? Absolutely. But I'm not going to pay the premium. A quick shop vac touch up between fires, clean & done. When it comes time for a deep clean, I flip it over in a cheap kiddie pool and then vacuum that to keep the mess down. Spend the $ saved on the stainless steel cover to keep the rain out & ash from turning into concrete. Cover makes firepit into a nice coffee table top too when fire not being used.
